Cross platform progress @BHVR

I know that cross platform play/progress isn't yet 100% confirmed to be coming to DBD but...

Regarding cross platform progress, I am getting a new PC soon. If I start playing the game on my primary Steam account now, and cross platform comes out in IDK 6 months, will I still be able to carry over my progress from Xbox? I have like 2500 hours on Xbox, so even if I play a lot on PC I'm still going to have WAY more content unlocked on Xbox. I'm afraid though, that if I start playing I won't be able to transfer progress unless it's an entirely new account.

Can anyone from BHVR gives me some advice here? Should I just wait until cross platform progress is available before purchasing the game on Steam or should I just play and not worry about it? I know much can't be said about what is or is not happening, but is this something you guys are planning for if/when it happens?

Unless an official statement is made, than that's unknown.

If it does happen, than you can 100% do this without fear of your progression being a "waste of time" or something along those lines.

If they're doing cross-platform with Windows and Steam, than I have no doubt that Cross-Progression will be also added in as well... since if it wasn't than that wouldn't really make it "Cross-Platform" except for like... play with other player from different versions.

I can @Peanits to see if he'll give you some information on this, but otherwise I don't know. I can't give you a 100% confirmation on if Cross-Platform and Cross-Progression will come to console and PC.

The signs are there of course, but that doesn't mean it's a 100% fact.

@FireHazard Well what concerns me is that any cross platform progress might be limited to NEW accounts. In other words if I have an active account on Xbox and an active account on Steam, they wouldn't be able to combine them, so instead of having a single DBD account I'm stuck with 2 accounts on 2 platforms.

I hope that whatever system they come up with allows for you to combine accounts, so that progress on both counts all together. If one overwrites the other that would be acceptable too, but in that case I'd be scared of getting reset basically.

I just want to know if this is something they are considering as they move forward with any cross platform anything. Because if necessary I will wait to buy the game on Steam.

I think it most likely can go back and forth from each one, but to combine them both... I've never seen that done before tbh.

As a matter of fact, I don't think any Cross-Platform games have done this before... or if they even can for that matter.

If it does happen, they would most likely have you confirm a whole bunch to just be 100% sure you're converting to the right save file for both platforms... OR you can just choose between the two since BHVRs systems count them as two separate accounts, it wouldn't erase the other.

That's most likely what they'll do, it'll allow you to choose between the two accounts but not actually merge them... since again, I've never see that happen on any cross-platform game.

The thing is I can wait. I don't mind. I'd like to start playing right away just because new computer, but if I have to wait it won't bother me. I'm not a huge PC gamer, I'm mainly getting a new PC for video processing (because my current setup is having heating/processor issues and I can't edit videos without crashing anymore). I doubt I will entirely convert to playing on PC. Maybe some games I'll pick up on Steam, but for the most part I will remain an Xbox gamer for a while.

If that's the case than I wouldn't worry about it...

Like I said, it most likely will just choose between the accounts and NOT merge them... since I've never seen any other Cross-Platform games do that...

If you can wait and they add Cross-Platform to console (which they seem to be on route to but it isn't a 100% confirmation) than i'd just wait until it happens...

I'm getting a new gaming PC, too. I'd love to play DbD on it, but only if all of my PS4 progress/purchases will transfer over. If DbD never has cross-progression, then I will never purchase it for PC.

  • thesuicidefoxthesuicidefox Member Posts: 6,204

I'd still get the game if it never happens. But I probably won't spend extra money on it. I'd get the base game and maybe Spirit DLC because I main her and that's it.

Also there were rumors of some sort of "compilation" version of the game that includes all the original IP killers and stuff. If possible I'd wait for that.

Well, Cross-Platform usually has Cross-Progression with it MOST of the time...

In this case, if it doesn't than you'll only be able to play with other console users and PC players but not have your progression transfer between them.

I don't see why they wouldn't add Cross-Progression into it, since your "account" is linked to another account/savefile on BHVRs cloud... so they can just create an account system through that system.

But that doesn't mean it's 100% confirmed or what I said at the end is possible... just take what I say with a grain of salt.

Right but when it launches, will the cross-progress be the overwriting kind or the merging kind? That's what I'd like to find out.

If it's overwriting, I will wait because I don't want to accidentally overwrite my Xbox progress.

If it's merging, I'll get the game probably sometime in January and play on it now and again just to practice on PC until cross-platform comes about.

If it never happens, I'll just buy the compilation game on PC and play sparingly for fun just because I can. I'll still mainly play on Xbox though.

Well like I said, most Cross-platform systems go off of an "account" system. So it wouldn't really overwrite other save data if that save data is designated to a specific account...

That's also why I doubt they'll add save data merging to the cross-platform... since I've never seen other games do that and I don't think they even can... it might cause too many issues idk.

Either way, i'd just wait to be 100% sure OR see if a dev responds to this... or they make an official statement. It's just to be completely sure and not waste any of your time.

It's up to you though of course!

T.TV in nickname - console streamer?

  • ElvenmonkElvenmonk Member Posts: 206

Fort nite let you merge multiple accounts and progress. It's doable just up to the devs. A few mmos let me do it too. A one account for all is doable I just don't know the finances of it since I know companies want you to buy stuff on their systems but items bought on xb,ps,switch, mobile, and pc all work across all systems with the same aaccount on fort nite

  • FireHazardFireHazard Member, Trusted Posts: 5,248

Yes, but this isn't Fortnite nor is it an MMO...

Each cross-platform is different, and it's ultimately up to what the devs are willing or able to do.

Yeah. I was just saying it is possible.

Also valve did it with portal 2 pc and ps3. I used to play at home on my pc then go to my ex's place and play on her ps3 continuing with no issue. Emotes and such transferred too

But you are right it is up to the devs.

These actually already exist, and lots of people stream on console. A good chunk of my friends stream, a few are the top DBD streamers on Mixer (most of the time, except when Ninja plays).

Streaming on Xbox is as easy as having a Mixer account. Its streaming service is built into the platform.

  • FireHazardFireHazard Member, Trusted Posts: 5,248

Its usually only effective when already known twitch streamers use it... or people who don't use twitch use that.

  • OshiOshi Member Posts: 156

This "streamer" open gate and immediately escape with 8k BP, leaving behind fellow teammate who was facecamped by Trapper. Now i am scared to play with T.TV players in my team.

I don't know how that has anything to do with the post but... I guess that's pretty bad to do?

It's up to the Survivors to do whatever they wish honestly... they can help or just be selfish. The latter of course is the most disliked.

Would it be possible to receive the amount of blood points you have wasn’t for time played? Iv only played 1k hours and the thought of doing it again makes me cry 😂

moving to pc pc next week 👀

  • FireHazardFireHazard Member, Trusted Posts: 5,248

No, there isn't anything like that.

When you move to a new version, you start from scratch. They're interested in Cross-play (which usually brings cross-progression with it), but there's no official statement on IF cross-progression will be a thing or if cross-play will be a thing either.

All we know is, BHVR is interested in the possibility and that's all. We'll have to see what happens in the future, maybe after the road-map or something.

Instead of worrying about transferring your progress just play the game. It's not that serious of a game anyways and you should have fun with it more then you should rage in it. If cross platform comes out they might add a "sign in with Microsoft" feature or "sign in with PlayStation" or whatever feature to there game if they were to add it on PC. Idk that's just my opinion

  • FireHazardFireHazard Member, Trusted Posts: 5,248

A lot of progress takes hours of gameplay, days, weeks even.

I can see why they'd be concerned about having the ability to transfer their progress over to another version. This will spare them the time and effort of getting all that progress back on ANOTHER version.

But as said above many, many times, BHVR is interested in the idea of Cross-Play BUT there isn't any official news about it right now, and we don't know where they will go in the future.

I have almost 3k hours and every perk on multiple survivors/killers, plus a lot of paid cosmetics. I'm not really down for farming for all that again or being denied content I already paid for.

  • FireHazardFireHazard Member, Trusted Posts: 5,248

What're you at in progress anyways?

If your entire roster for Killer, Survivor, or both is P3-50... than I can see why you wouldn't want to start all over on another version lol.

But it's not just that, its also (like you said) about the money you spent on cosmetics and DLC that you'll also have to re-buy. I'll assume you have every DLC, so that's at least 100$+ and the game itself adding even more onto the pile.

Plus cosmetics that you had on the store will have to be re-bought. I wouldn't be surprised if it hits 200$ or more... it depends on how many cosmetics you bought though.
