The Clown builds

KilligmaKilligma Member Posts: 338

I have been ranking up The Clown through the BBQ event and I am really enjoying his playstyle. Does anyone have any good guides and/or builds they can suggest to make him optimal for higher level play?

While Clown is quite good by default punishing vaults Bamboozle is still a powerful perk on him. The fact that one window is blocked and the other one can only be medium vaulted into a free hit shuts down any jungle gym shenanigans really fast.

    The next is Enduring.
Clown can force a pallet throw but is arguably even better at challenging those. Enduring will save more time than BS after a stun and because of the slow you end up going for hits at pallets very frequently.

Enduring is also really good against DS, reload your bottles after a down then throw one down and wait till the DS. They will be immediatly affected and because of your faster recovery and supply of bottles you can often down them again in less than 10 seconds.
You'd be surprised how many ragequits it will cause.

    The next one is Whispers.
Whispers is great on the Clown, when you approach a gen you will imnediatly know survivors work on it before they can see you. This allows you to surprise them with a gas bottle or plan your chase beforehand to get early hits off.

The last one is Ruin. I dont think i have to explain it.

So its Bamboozle + Enduring + Whispers + Ruin.

Sloppy Butcher, Brutal Strength, Pop goes the Weasel etc. are all good on him too.

My clown is built for short chases and downing asap to make up for his lack in map control
Enduring, Brutal strength, Stbfl and BBQ
works pretty well, but if you dont care about themes you can include nurses calling somewhere.

Here are other tips i can give:
If at a loop, try to throw your bottle at some high place like a tree or gen light, this will cover a way bigger area. Alternatively throw a bottle on top of a waist or head high loop, they will often cover multiple sides and will either force them to leave the loop (You can usually catch them trying to reach another one) or go through them and get hit either way.

That is a good call, just trying to get the throwing arc down well so i do not fluff any throws. Also, tried the DS trick and so far people just do not even try to use it, saved me a good few games so thank you again.

Yes many people will save it when you do that hoping you wont do that again next time.

Let me give you a few more tips:

    1. Clown isnt dependent on addons, though all of them are good except for the shoe sole and VHS Porn addons, they are barely noticable.

    2. Do not throw one at their feet unless you have to slow them cause they are about to reach a pallet or window. Try to throw one in a way that it explodes ahead of them and forces them to run through the entire cloud rather than the radius for nearly twice the effectiveness.

    3. The way i deal with loops is to first take control of the pallet, simply being closer to it.
Throw one at the top of loop like i mentioned or at some point at the loop that isnt to close to the pallet. The survivors will be forced to abandon the loop and risk that you catch up or go through the gas and risk getting hit.

The Clown may not look like it but he may be serious top-tier competition for Billy and Huntress. Before the rank reset i saw a few good Clowns at the high ranks who completely annihilated us all.

    Big brain clown main here.
You mainly want to focus down shortening chase times and giving him better snowball or some sort of punish. My build for rank one consists of STBFL, NOED, BBQ and, PGTW. Other perks that are worth testing on him include but are not limited to:

    • Ruin
    • Monitor and Abuse
    • Blood Warden
    • MYC
    • Whispers
    • KO
    • Sloppy Butcher.
