Pallet changes lead to new bug??

TwixTwix Member Posts: 235

I was standing next to a pallet (not in the middle of it) killer lunges to hit me, I hit spacebar and the pallet doesn't drop.

I don't record my gameplays, but I think the same thing happened to Hexy, let me see if I can find the clip.

Depends on where you are standing near the pallet cause if you stand to close to the deadzone it won't work you have to be on either side of the pallet..

I was in the other side of the pallet, I have over 500 hours in this game, you think I don't know how to throw down a pallet? lol

Honestly, yes thats what I am believing
Your 500 hours mean nothing because the pallet mechanic got just changed a few days ago
If you cant provide footage about the "bug", well.....

Were you standing still? Because afaik currently you must be moving to drop the pallet.

  • ASpazNamedSteveASpazNamedSteve Member Posts: 1,501

If you're holding shift you can't drop it I believe, unless you run through it and drop it on the other side.

Yeah I was standing still. And if that's so, pretty stupid change.

You were most likely holding sprint button down which affected your ability to drop a pallet that's it. Doesn't seem like a bug but rather a badly designed feature

Seems you have not had enough time to figure out how it works with the deadzones yet.

You cannot drop pallet from the middle of it.
You need to pick a side.
THat's the whole point of the vacuum removal. So you don't magically teleport on the opposite side of the pallet.

I literally said that I was standing still next to it (not in the middle, but next to it) the option to throw it down was there, once I pressed spacebar it should have dropped, but it did not. The clip I posted shows it perfectly, he's on one side and tries to drop it and it doesn't drop. Whether it's a bug, poorly designed, not being able to throw it down if holding shift or whatever it should be fixed.

There is a part where the prompt disappear, maybe he just spammed during these. That's kinda weird nonetheless.

Ya. I noticed that too.. Does IT need adjusting or do WE need adjusting? Time will tell as the PTB goes on. To me it's about as annoying as cleansing a totem that is directly in front of you but you're not in the right spot. Maybe give it a SLIGHT vacuum. We'll see.

  • ASpazNamedSteveASpazNamedSteve Member Posts: 1,501

I still think my comment from earlier was the answer btw. Try it yourself, stand at a pallet edge trying to drop it whilst holding shift.

  • MimimiLalalaMimimiLalala Member Posts: 37

The new pallet system isnt really working for me either. I often stand next to a pallet and dont even see the prompt.
I quite liked that they removed the vacuum and implemented a deadzone in the middle of it, however when standing not inside the pallet, but just next to it, I often can not throw it down.

Here it is again, it looks to be an issue when holding sprint like you said, which most of the time people do it without noticing, I hope it gets changed.

The reason for it is also quite obvious when you think about it; when you are in a chase and the killer is hot on your heels, you run to a pallet mashing space to drop it as soon as you can, and if that was changed it would mean that results in you dropping the pallet as soon as you reach it on your side and getting hit.

I agree it feels a little bit unintuitive right now, but it could be that we're not used to it. Plus the alternative (where you have to time when you press space instead of mashing it) could be worse and even less intuitive.

This change is intentionally. Simply let go of shift, it isn't that hard. If you wanna stay same side, stand still and hit space. If you want to go to the other side, hold shift, run forward, and hit space when on the other side. You can't throw same side if you hold shift.

It's as simple as lifting your pinky finger when hitting space. It's a part of the pallet changes that remove the vacuum from the game.

I was wondering why I was getting all these hits when survivors could have clearly dropped that pallet. Then I played a survivor game and couldn't throw it down and was like WTF.

It's not as simple as you think, because most of the time it is done unconsciously - your concentration is towards your surrounding and what the killer is doing that you simply forget that you're still holding down shift.

You need to have the situational awareness and adaptation to it, it's a new mechanic so of course it'll feel funny at first. I've gotten used to it so it isn't a big deal for me atm. I think the new changes are great.

Yeah we make unconscious decisions, but that's where you need to train your muscle memory. I'll use a different genre for example, fighting games. Plenty of inputs needed for combos and special moves, more so than just holding a single button in DbD. You have to be aware of your opponent in a fighting game, have perfect timing, AND be aware of your inputs at all times in order to not make a mistake.

It's the same concept when trying to teach people when to let go and when to press shift. You need to stop making it unconscious and start making it conscious. Pallets were pretty mindless before, now they require a bit of effort. It isn't that bad.

The devs literally showed us a vid of it working that if your sprinting, you will not get a prompt at all until your fully on the otherside...facepalms

Exactly, tis a simple case of required adapting and well...the devs are asking survivors to adapt this time...

Bro you didn't have to go that in depth just tell him to adapt, bringing a fighting game doesn't make any sense since this is dbd..

Except I kinda do. The only way to make some players realize something isn't that bad is to spell it out for them as slowly as possible.
