Counterplay to Tinkerer?

Hi, I'm around rank 9 as survivor with like 290 hours as killer and when the whole Tinkerer/Ruin meta came around, I never really used either perks because I'd just have enough of a sense to know where to go so that I could use pop, so I don't know what survivors tend to do against Tinkerer nor do I know when to expect a killer to make use of their Tinkerer proc, so when I get around that spot where it activates should I try to stealth or make distance, or hop off the gen for a second and keep an eye on what's going on around the corner, I have a very stealthy playstyle because I play solo, but Tinkerer is really an antithesis to my whole style, so what should I do?

The first tinkerer proc will usually get anybody unless the generator location has good vision. So if your generator is in a long wall jungle gym then you're ######### out of luck.

Once you have identified tinkerer get used to where on the repair progress is 70% and get off the generator. Lots of tinkerer players will abandon chase they're already in to come stop the generator. If you play a macro game of survivor and get lots of gens near completion, naturally the killer can't be everywhere at once.

As a solo player I highly recommend getting off the generator (even if the killer has ruin) at 70%. Best case scenario ruin is down or they don't have it and time has been wasted to rotate to a generator without getting a free hit (and/or chase) on the survivor that was repairing it.

Spine chill can't help against the best killer players that will approach with tinkerer looking down. You have to be extremely aware on generators where you have no vision.

    Spine Chill and Premonition

One of the best ways against predictable tinkerer users is to waste their time. Hide around the area once it reaches 70% and he’ll come over and either waste time finding you or have no one to chase greatly hurting his pressure

Best method I think is that spread as a group and do chain tinkerer. 3-4 person did gens at %70 in a nearly identical time will decrease the pressure of the killer and it makes him panic. He will try to attack all of the gens. Other than that best idea is when you get %70 percent just hide a little and wait to see if the killer will be coming or not. If he is not either he is busy or there is no tinkerer. Moreover perks like spine chill can be useful in that scenario and I found spring burst perk quite useful when killer canme insantly and I need to open a distance between us.

Mandy's post just told you counter play. Pay attention to your surroundings.

    That's not the counterplay lmao

Unfix your eyes from the gen and skim your unfixed camera around.

That is counter-play... it's called awareness. The killer just loses their stain and TR... they don't turn invisible, and they don't gain speed or other abilities. So you just need to use your eyes and look around a bit more. Simples.

Or are you expecting counter-play to just be "Press E to get out of danger" type of thing?

I’ve found Fixated is especially good for this. Get it to 70%, then slink away quickly without scratch marks.

That’s true having the walking speed is so nice for stealth plays

Mind you I main Jeff and Jane so stealth isn’t an option

If I can tell tinkerer is in play I try to primarily do gens with other people so you can power through it faster and hopefully get it done before the killer gets to the gen. This is better in soloq imo.

If you aren't doing solo que I'd say all spreading is good but if you are doing solo I rarely have teammates actually know to be spreadout.

You could try to add time wasters to your build to get the killer to not focus on gens as much like using pebble or red herring (but only use red herring on unimportant gens).

Pretty much once you are aware some sort of stealth is at play by the killer, including Tinkerer, this should totally change which gens you choose to work on, and which sides you should work on to offer the best views with the least amount of LoS blockers.

Its pretty hard to definitely counter so i guess it varies from killer to killer. When you hit 70% percent, hide until you know the killer is in a chase, then finish the gen.

I mean resilience tool boxes to do the gen quickly before the killer can get there

And the age old saying if the killer has ruin do bones
