(Small Rant) The Nightmare Nerf Rework

I been playing Freddy two months after legion came out. I seen him be an absolutely amazing killer then get Nerf, get his absolutely amazing rework and then get Nerf again. I do prefer his new abilities compare to the old ones but his current addons are absolute garbage. They took an amazing concept and just threw them all all away giving us these unless and unhelpful trash.

It really shows how much they actually "care" about his chapter. I'm saying this sarcastically because they really don't.

The chains and rope addons are complete dog water. They use to slow down the game by a lot. now, it just "hear foot steps louder, breathing, and generators being worked on" these addons are terrible for Freddy and actually be more useful for The Spirit. They should actually be all brown addons now. Just because how bad they are. I wouldn't mind a small Nerf to his addons and I wouldn't mind something actually creative for Freddy and something that actually makes sense to his character. I really hope they go back to his addons and make them usefully again because at this point just don't put any addons when playing Freddy because they make no difference what so ever.

  • Freddy isn't the only one with bad add ons though. Most of legion's are not good and they are original.

I have been playing freddy also quite a lot this weeks and yeah, there are addons that are complete trash.

You are always forced to play with 5 snares (wich aren't the great thing in my opinion) and if you want to play with the dream pallets there are maps (like midwich) where there is no spots to put some of them besides where the original pallets start and against a team in comms is imposible to cacth them off guard.

The ones that are at best decent are the ones that reduce the cooldown of your tp but you need to keep survivors sleep to make it worth.

Nothing that forces survivors to play a longer game is allowed to exist in a particularly strong state. Now we've got people wanting Tinkerer nerfed because they don't like getting forced off gens repeatedly.

At least Freddy's still decent. Legion needs damn near a rework because their addons and power just aren't particularly delivering on any sort of power fantasy anymore. Would be so bad is their power still had attack perk synergy, but nope can't have that.

Legion has mural sketch book and smiley pin that gives him free mangled and free injure pressure. Freddy are add-on are legit irrelevant. he has red paint brush but he has no real add-on that punish survivor for being in the dream world coupled with the fact both his snares and pallets are worse. He doesn't need lower teleport cooldown. It is already good enough in base-kit and remaining add-on are meme add-ons like black pill bottle and green/yellow dresses.

Freddy is near extinct killer these days. even Legion is more popular.

  • I personally think legion's smiley pin is bad because it results in the survivors not wanting to heal. That's bad because they will just play injured and probably have dead hard. His duration add-ons are generally not needed.

Freddy has nancy's masterpiece/sketch which i personally think is really good and punishes survivor for being in the dream world. I like pill bottle too.

So i think their add-ons are equally as bad, and i think it comes down to their power being fine as is. I think more play legion also because people like the character, and apparently no one wanted the remake freddy.

Freddy is still fun and is still a great killer. I never run anything above brown add-ons, if I run any at all, but that’s with all killers except Trapper. I usually do really well with him.

    Tbh, yeah.

I was looking at Freddy's add-ons the other day and most of them are just awful.

legion's entire benefit is based off the entire idea of not healing because by not healing, you are exposed for entire match. This really helps his time efficiency as he only needs to land a single M1 hit compare 2 hits. This also makes hook-saving a complete pain as your best case scenario becomes hook-trading unless you heal which becomes waste of time because if legion finds you, you'll be injured quickly again.

Mural sketch book is very important add-on for Legion because it allows Legion to fish out the weak links of the team. Legion is very good at finding figuring out who the bad looper on the teams are very quickly because he can easily bounce from one survivor to next. He is also very good at tunneling because for example,

If survivor 1,2,3 have not been hooked but survivor 4 is on 2nd hook, typically survivors that are on 2nd hook tend to hide away from action and do safe generators. Legion can hit one person and just scan entire map for the person 2nd hook, than chase them which allows him to easily get quick eliminating kills further slowing down the game.

Freddy's sketch books are waste. The TP base-kit cooldown is good enough to do all the basic functions between fake TPing & elb flowing from hook->chase. there isn't any benefits for hitting mutiple survivors into dream world because he no longer has any add-on that promote keeping multiple survivors in dream world. Black pill bottle revolves on survivors staying awake and the survivor not paying attention to spirit-phase walk freddy. He also has normal TR when awake so its unlikely you will ever stealth with it. Your best bet is to utilize the perk "Monitor&Abuse" to lower your TR to 24, however the perk has no effect in dream world from Lullaby effect. Overall, Freddy dreamworld has no threat-level so there isn't much reason to wake up in current iteration of his power as they completely gutted his 4vs1(slowdown add-ons) and his 1vs1(snare nerf).

Hot take: Freddy is now one of the worst killers in the game.

You know, given the meta shift towards holding W and predropping pallets, you're probably right.

But it's better to be a terrible killer than to only be good in the worst, most painful, most skilless way possible. Hopefully they buff his add-ons without bringing back slowdown ones. Buffing pallet and snare counts would be a nice start.

  • woundcowboywoundcowboy Member Posts: 1,122

I don't think the snares/pallets would help much because, as you said, survivors just hold forward. In chase, Freddy is essentially a worse Clown. Freddy can't do anything if the survivor is awake (which was needlessly nerfed) and essentially does not have a power. Against competent survivors, Freddy's only power is the teleport.

  • MadLordJackMadLordJack Member Posts: 8,815

It would help because you could actually lay traps. That's the entire purpose of his power, only he was never used that way because you never needed to. Now you need to, only you don't have enough.

    In terms of fun? Definitely.

The sorry state of my favorite killer is one of the reasons why I've left DBD. I just...couldn't stand it anymore.

gen defense is needed for killer in current balance of the game. freddy will stay as very weak killer until his add-on are return back to normal and his snare nerfs are reverted. those add-on are required for the killer to have 4vs1 potencial. I know people whine about killer mechanics such as Lament box for pinhead, Nemesis's zombies for being skill-less map pressure and pre-nerf freddy add-ons but these mechanics are really needed for current balance of gens. Its same reason why anti-loop mechanics are needed for killer to have good 1vs1 potencial because of many of the loops being very imbalanced/skewed in the survivors favor.
