The games core issues have been ignored for so long.
I don't know, some of these things feel like they're the gripes of players who don't know what they're doing or how to exert pressure effectively as killer. Specifically getting gen rushed, which is mitigated by learning to apply map pressure effectively via multiple injuries, slugging and whatever killer relative abilities you have. Your mid level and up killer does not get gen rushed unless they're failing to play effectively.
I feel the developers have indeed put quite a massive amount of time into pleasing this community as they've done several massive patches responding to their criticism and are continuing to do so, the nurse changes being a good example of them. The nurse changes both maintain the strength of the killer, still likely the best in the game, while giving survivor's a very slight measure of counterplay to her in an attempt to make it good for both sides. I do feel they try to take a reserved approach to some changes because this community is whiny as hell in two different directions, and if they did everything people saw as a crisis they'd likely end up nerfing both sides significantly. Even factoring in the more experienced players.
I do see this game as the best it's been since release. There is really no super bs scenario like it used to have remaining. The worst parts of this game currently are mori's, keys and the two best killers not allowing survivors a meaningful way of counterplay. But they're still addressing community complaints heavily. They can't do them all at once because it's a balancing act and shifting too much to one side makes things hard to track and risks overdoing it, so this is the slower but smarter way to approach said issue.
As nice as it may sound to just drop everything and make every patch, instead of every other patch, about improving game mechanics, it's naive to think that is plausible for them to do. Never ending development does not fund itself and lingering sales without an infusion of new will both bore a playerbase and dry up revenue needed to pay the staff at behavior so they can continue work on this game. The battlepass is also being handled exceptionally well and is not questionable. Purely cosmetic in nature and it allows you to earn your money back for an insane discount on cosmetics (over 8k value just accounting for cosmetics in the pass) is excessively charitable. Hell it would be a good deal even IF they did not let you earn aurics out of it. In the end it is a reasonable price for superficial content and a ton of additional free content they're putting out alongside it. For these reasons, I do not feel behavior is in need of slowing down their monetization practices and am glad they're finding further avenues for monetization.
In conclusion, I do agree the game isn't perfect and there are some matters that still need addressed. But the critique of behavior doing a poor job of improving the game and shaping it from what was likely looked at as a casual screwing around game into the most iconic title of a genre they more or less pioneered, I feel you're incorrect. And as previously noted, I feel their balance between QoL and new content to further finance their studio is well balanced and generous to the playerbase as it stands. I have never seen a development studio so responsive to the community and I look forward to continuing to see them grow as a studio and Dead by Daylight grow as a game.
@TheDarkWall if you at all knew who Space Coconut is, you would not have written at least half of what you have. It appears that you have been playing the game for less than a year, so you don’t understand how wrong you are on certain points. Maybe a year from now, if you are still playing, you will understand the frustrations that seasoned players have with the way that BHVR has handled the game. If you were to step away from the game for 4 months, and then come back, you’d realized just how broken this game is when compared to other games. You can’t treat this game as if it was in a vacuum. So, we will need to agree to disagree on almost all points.
After watching the video and thinking about it, I agree with points both Darkwall and OP made.
I see nothing regarding counterpoints other than condescension. Not sure where you're getting the impression I've played for less than a year from, but I've been around a good while longer than that and while the majority of my hours are not on pc I have spent plenty of time around seasoned players. You really should try to discuss the ideas of the person you disagree with rather than talk down to them and try to degrade their experience. Weak .....Well I'd say weak point but you didn't really make a point other than "Darkwall bad, dbd bad"
I don't care what reputation this guy apparently has, I'll take him at his words and nothing more, which I did not find persuasive. Granted it was probably some random bs gameplay he had lying around, but I also did not see anything in the video that made me go "Holy [BAD WORD] this guy is on another level, I should bow down and accept his word as truth"
That video was awesome. Can i repost this on reddit and here?
You can repost if you like, but I did already post here in feedback and on reddit :)
It's not a very popular post although someone did give me my first platinum for it :)
The battlepass is also being handled exceptionally well and is not questionable. Purely cosmetic in nature and it allows you to earn your money back for an insane discount on cosmetics (over 8k value just accounting for cosmetics in the pass) is excessively charitable.
Eh. To consider it a "discount".... ehhh. And even charity.... They came up with the "sales" and prices.... the best way I can think to word it... is like a store, they mark up prices, and then put them as "discounted" when really it is closer to what it originally should be in the first place, etc.. But people flock to the "sale" thinking it's awesome.... That sorta thing... I used to think your way, but not anymore. They've made bloody millions also.. I don't understand why people are basically trying to imply they need donations and the games lively hood could be threatened and possible bankruptcy etc etc. It's just too overboard for me. (Saying in general. From what I've been seeing.) They are making several ways of profit from not only this game... and continue to find ways to gain even more profit... (as well as free labor...) To put it simply I just don't agree. If they were ever in danger, I am sure they'd let us all know.
I think it was like estimated $25-50 million in revenue a year .... yeah... People are allowed to question stuff, IMO. Like I am just so over hearing how they need the few "scraps" of money they get from cosmetics etc... to "stay afloat".... They are making profit...
@SpaceCoconut Nice video/letter.. you hit some good points.
@TheDarkWall I was trying to be nice, as virtually everything that you stated is either false, or misguided. I’m not going to nit-pick through a wall of text, where nothing is really salvageable. You know nothing about the industry, which is very easy to discern from the words that you used, and how you used them. You don’t even talk about the 10s of millions that BHVR made (well or $100 million now) from DbD and squandered. Ever heard of Death Garden? FYI, Evolve and Dying Light came out long before DbD, as well as many others.
@TheDarkWall meet kettle. Your arrogant attitude is not appreciated here. BHVR is using DbD as a piggy bank to fund several other projects instead of fixing the numerous bugs/issues that increase with every patch. The technical debt keeps growing; however, it does appear that they are at least hiring qualified people now. Something they failed to do for almost 3 years. BHVR is the largest game developer in Canada. They have lots of money, or at least did until they released their failed products.
Instead of being a blind DbD fan boy, try learning about things that you know nothing about. I can’t believe that a console player would be so clueless to think that PC games are better. I’ll respond to you, exactly how I respond to a PC elitist. Almost all of the best games ever made are only available on consoles, and PC games don’t even come close to them. Since PC hardware can vary by very large orders of magnitude, that advantage can never be fully realized. The lower end machines would never be able to play games designed for the higher end machines, that few can afford.
OMG. You pretty much summed up everything many of us here have been trying to say to the devs.
Too bad they won't seet it.
Great job nonetheless man.
"A development studio responsive to the community"
Dude. With all do respect, what drugs are you on?
It took them ages to "fix" DS, which is still clutch. As you can see in every build past rank 10.
DS, BT, exhaust perk, Adre/ head on.
Great balance, you have 6-8 meta perks. Jesus.
They released Mettle of man, which was massively criticized during the PTB, right after they had "fixes" Ds.
And then, after somehow acknowledging the mess they had done, went on to nerf the perk out of meta, pissing off those who had bought the character for the perk.
They gutted Legion. They are nerfing Nurse's base kit, which wasn't the problem.
Trapper is their first killer and hasn't received any qol changes god knows for how long, thus showcasing their unbalanced handle of new content/improvement.
They are not addressing the gap between SWF and Solo survivors.
Dude. I'm sorry but they are not, in any shape or form a responsive team.
I subscribed to you already and found you on the forums :)
The battlepass is great everyone complaining about it as if its mandatory or such a terrible idea. People always want more cosmetics and people want more reason to play the game and it gives both. It also gives you a full refund if you complete the battlepass on top of whatever the cosmetics would be worth from the shop. You buy it once and you never have to buy it again unless they raise the price of it or you dont complete enough to get your 1000 auric cells back.
I'm not saying or implying, or complaining that is mandatory. I definitely 100% question their tactics for sucking revenue out of their consumers.
You do not get a full refund, you have the option to obtain 1000 auric cells back upon hitting level 68, if that is even possible. The dev's aren't even sure if it's possible. It'll be a "test". It is more like a rebate/gift card.
There's nothing wrong with people wanting cosmetics, if they want to buy it fine. I just don't necessarily agree with how this company has decided to go about this entire thing, and I question their future approach as well.
EDIT: Also I find it questionable to make specific exclusive content, that is ONLY accessed thru a paywall....
Even the best players and many survivors complain about gen speeds. Its bs. Sometimes you dont even get the chance to apply that pressure. A match can end in 2 minutes.
I almost wanna give him a sub because this is EXACTLY HOW I [BAD WORD] FEEL.
Devs wont listen to us though. They prefer the players who come in every time a new licensed chapter comes out and play for a week XD
it'll depend on playtime and the timeframe they give us but i see it as a refund Can just continue to use it to get the pass again and again but i dont mind cosmetics being behind the pay wall from what ive seen a good amount are just reskins of some of what we have already anyway
