From what I've read, it doesn't clarify when the ranking will be removed. If its removed before or during testing, it's just allowing you to say "We're still working on it" or worse "we've completed it and it's working beautifully" when little to no work was actually put into it. Please tell us you won't remove it until after we see it working and can use the ranks to assist in validating that claim.
That's a potentially dangerous change though. New players on both sides may very easily be dissuaded from playing, not knowing what's going on when they get beaten, which will happen.
I'm sure this will do wonders for me when I play against countless SWF survivors of my skill level and watch generators disappear. Guess we can just keep making changes to the game while continuing to not acknowledge the elephant in the room.

What concerns me though is how matchmaking will work afterwords, since in am somewhat a good killer (getting 4ks here and there so I'm average) I don't want to be put against try hards every single match, or in general be put up against people who are way above my skills level

So a brand new survivor will face 1k hr+ experienced killers and vice versa. Doesn't that like make no sense? You changed ruin to stop frustrating new players?
Doesn't this decision like seem backwards considering the above? How can you have bragging rights "oh look I'm rank 1" but in a game where you get to rank one vs'n brown ranks. Either you keep the ranks and have people actually compete at those ranks or just remove them totally. What fun is there having a potato fail every skill check on your team. And where is the fun in destroying new players as killer? It's like most games, they are more fun against people relatively on your level.
Your reasoning for this just screams laziness. You are tackling no problem but simply band aiding it. It seems that this is how you quite often deal with your problems. You make one problem into a massive problem. 0 logic whatsoever...
Just sort it so killers / survivors actually get matched against the same colour..... It's like in other games where you play ranked. You get matched with other ranks who are the same. Playing someone with considerably higher play time and skill rating just doesn't make the game fun. In fact it's worse than what currently is produced.
Honestly if the only reason you are playing is for rank and not for fun, you are sucking the fun out of the game and it's you doing the work. then the blame goes to the game.
I'd argue we should have mmr shown. So you can see if you played well or poorly, despite in game outcomes such as being sacrificed after doing X amount of work.
People say "oh it can be abused then". Heres a hint: it can be abused either way by people purposefully losing. Wether they can see it or not is irrelevant to those people.
So no rank rewards? Seems kinda pointless to try and rank up if we're not working towards anything. Maybe give us something like a rank 1 charm or something we can show off.

MMR is being used for matchmaking now which is another method of preventing all of those issues you just brought up. So a brand new Survivor will only face a 1k experience Killer if they've been doing amazing and the 1k experience killer has been mostly failing in that time.
This is bad. This can easily look like your 'fix' is only going to be removing the visibility of ranks, so people stop complaining (with proof) about bad matchmaking.
Even if you do have the other system in place and it is working great, every single one of us will have no evidence of that, and anyone that wants to can say you lied.
Simple solution: Make skill rating visible to everyone at the end of the match. Even better show the cross comparison so players see how they were grouped. Even better than that, show how much gain/loss there is based on that comparison. It is not going to benefit players to hide this at all, and though BHVR seems to think it will benefit them, it will be a dumpster fire, in my opinion.
As a new player the game loop was fun for me but what I really loved was coming up with strategies to stop survivors and the drama of maintaining a pip. Without a visible ranking system, that'll all be gone now or way less intense. But yeah I guess I'm not the type of player bhvr is looking to attract.
The devs rather be shifty in the way they shape this game instead of fixing the underlying problems that are deeply rooted in this game.
For a long time; it seems this is a painful truth to realize.
Devs: You are dramatically ruining the game for your Veteran playerbase and instead of fixing it, you are destroying it until it remains a ghost of it's former self.
If you keep this up; you will not have a playerbase beyond casuals who play the game for a week or two and leave.
This is the time to stop and reconsider who you really care about as Dev's and a company.
The players who gave you a job and a success or the temporary wealth it brings?

It simply tries to match players better than no system at all, based on time played and consistency more than skill.
