The actual body of Trickster, which includes his garments, is just plain and simple. There is nothing a little bit scary there. If giving a killer a neon bat is a excuse for making a creepy killer, than just give Nea a knife and call it a day. I'm sure she will be much more threatening than Trickster.
He's just not scary. You got all these different killers that actually look scary (except maybe legion too) and then there's trickster. Who would actually look at that and be like yeah that looks something I'd run from. Trickster doesn't fill any criteria of what a killer should look like imo. It also depends on what a person thinks a killer should look like.
I would watch a movie with that version of Michael Myers. Heck, I'll go against my rule of not buying cosmetics and buy Michael Myers and the cosmetic and go back to playing killer.
As I said, Amanda is a licensed character so there is a limit to what the designers could do to her, so even if you don't like her design, it is not BHVR's fault. Trickster doesn't have this excuse as he is a original character. Also, Amanda's pig head is very characteristic and kinda of unsettling and the details on it make it seem like something rotten or gory.
"As I said, Amanda is a licensed character so there is a limit to what the designers could do to her, so even if you don't like her design, it is not BHVR's fault."
I don't see why that matters. BHVR could just not put Amanda in the game if that were an issue.
"Also, Amanda's pig head is very characteristic and kinda of unsettling and the details on it make it seem like something rotten or gory."
Yea but no one respects legion either. They get the same "David could totally beat them up" treatment. Pointing out a known issue doesn't make this better.
No one thought the bunny skins were good, the "cute" stuff like The pink elephant still have grotesque body hair and proportions and unsettling design elements. I don't see anyone using dwelf skins, ever. I feel like this is a bit of a straw man a lot of people use? The fact that non horror elements exist in the game, is okay if used sparingly. The issue is that the base version of this killer does not in any way seem threatening. And psychological horror does not work if there is no suspense or sense of unknown. There is no suspense, he's immediately coming after you. There is no unknown, it is a kid trying to hook and kill you. How far will he go, what is he willing to do, how will he subvert my expectations??? He won't, he's just going to try to kill you. Calling him a "psychological horror" killer doesn't work if he acts literally exactly the same as the other killers. Its not even an argument
I love Trickster's design. It just really fits DBD as being this combinations of all sorts of different styles that are all united by some aspect of horror. I for one love the diversity. I remember people said the same thing about Deathslinger too...
Trickster totally looks like a killer tho... it's just a different style of killer from monsters like Demo and Blight or the classics like Myers and Bubba...
It's a small minority of people who just want to complain that even go there really. He works well, his story is good, and everything is a cohesive package. It's not just him that has gotten whined about either.
Legion is 4 edgy teens wearing paper plates causing mischief. Pig is some drug addict wearing a impractical and frankly counter productive Pig mask while grunting like she is role playing a Pig. Charlotte is a distant relative of Shrek and has a boob gremlin. Deathslinger (the name, lol) is some Western character who took a wrong turn. Spirit is a Asian school girl moaning and groaning as she runs around naked... I mean what? Huntress is from the snu snu Futurama episode. Freddy is some tiny man wearing a ugly xmas sweater and a fedora. Who dressed that man? Speaking of man... Myers is a man with a mask like GF is a man with mask like how LF is man with a mask or how Legion is teengers wearing a mask like how Pig is a woman wearing a mask just like Huntress is wearing a mask with Trapper being one of the original people wearing a mask in this game. M-A-S-K. Clown looks like he'd fall over from exhaustion after walking two steps and require a Entity scooter to get around the map... also Homer sounds. PH is some super built and good looking man with some weird shaped thing on his head and a knife that is more cartoony than Tom & Jerry.
You can literally tear down every single Killer design if you want to be a party pooper.
Saw is a big franchise, nobody would ever refuse the opportunity to make a chapter about it. And if you think that a disgusting pig head looks less threatening than a yaoi character, then I have no idea what to say.
First off, your images didn't upload, maybe reupload them?
DBD is a horror-themed game. Your idea of horror can be completely different from someone else's. The requirements of adding a new original Killer is their dark history: committing murders, tortures, etc. This doesn't necessarily have to be shown visually on the actual character.
Horror can be shown in a variety of different ways, it does NOT have to be shown in a grotesque or ugly way. Deathslinger and Clown aren't even that mutated or even wear a mask just like Trickster and yet they still fit that dark and grim horror theme.
Why not include a killer who is flamboyant, neon, and visually human? If the killer is a KPOP psychopathic serial killer , why not include him?
Ask yourself this. What make a horror character, horror? What constitutes as horror? Is it just how "ugly" and "creepy" they look? Perhaps there's more to it than just visuals, eh?
Love this. But people in this fanbase don't want to wrap their heads around the fact that a "realistic," "handsome villain" has a place alongside horror icons, "grotesque monsters" and unnerving characters in this game of ultimate horror mashup.
I don't really get the whole "he doesn't look like a horror character!" thing either. I'll concede his actual character is really generic and a bit poorly written (although there are genuinely cool aspects to his lore), but appearance-wise, he works perfectly as BHVR's take on beauty horror.
Dbd has its own established style too with its with its darker and grimy aesthetics. Now with more costumes and killers breaking that aesthetic more players that liked that are complaining. I can understand why people who enjoyed the creepy Shape or disturbing Blight are getting put off by the pretty boy Trickster.
I mean we can all agree that if the next killer is a golden retriever dog that licks the survivor to death its ok to complain about how the good boi isn't scary, right?
Again, you're bringing the wrong examples. Each killer in the game, original or not, has a theme revolving around violence and torment. Adding a "golden retriever that licks the survivor to death" (I'm assuming this supposed dog concept doesn't have any creepy or tormenting powers?) wouldn't work.
This forum is probably the last place to get open minded opinions from. Just take some food for thought:
1. Trickster is probably designed to primarily cater for the massive Asian dbd community (funnily enough) it's not just English speakers playing this game.
2. Amanda is a a woman wearing a pig head. Legion is a teenager wearing a mask.. I'm failing to see why some psycho who like bright colours and hums like a child while trying to murder people is any less well thought out- I'd actually argue more so.
3. There's something real/tangeable about the character and I'd say one of their best designed. I believe he says 'found you' when grabbing someone from a locker.
4. Totally get he isn't for everyone, but I for one think he definitely looks cool and different (and is a psycho). Just looking forward to versing him more when he's buffed so he's more viable for more people.
What the little sprinkles of blood he has? And not really if I saw that irl walking down the road id just laugh. Looking like a bootlegged joker to me. But like I said its up to the person what they think is scary.

The actual body of Amanda is also plain and simple. Moreso than the Trickster, if I'm being honest.

Not really that unsettling.

You are... SO close, to understanding this one. Like I feel like you're RIGHT THERE, on the edge of understanding this one. And yet....
Yea but no one respects legion either. They get the same "David could totally beat them up" treatment. Pointing out a known issue doesn't make this better.
Well. People have opinions, albeit questionable ones.
Like what you like, dislike what you dislike. I’m not saying you’re doing it, but just don’t force it on others.
No one thought the bunny skins were good, the "cute" stuff like The pink elephant still have grotesque body hair and proportions and unsettling design elements. I'm more concerned with Trickster playing like a killer actually. And by that I mean being able to get kills.
I love Trickster's design. It just really fits DBD as being this combinations of all sorts of different styles that are all united by some aspect of horror. I for one love the diversity. I remember people said the same thing about Deathslinger too...

Can't really use Myers as an example since he's already an established character with his own style and aesthetics.
It's a small minority of people who just want to complain that even go there really. He works well, his story is good, and everything is a cohesive package. It's not just him that has gotten whined about either.

I don't care how he looks, I just wish he was actually good/fun to play.
Saw is a big franchise, nobody would ever refuse the opportunity to make a chapter about it. And if you think that a disgusting pig head looks less threatening than a yaoi character, then I have no idea what to say.

They could pass if it doesn't fit their game since it's just some person with a mask and a blade. 😋
Love this. But people in this fanbase don't want to wrap their heads around the fact that a "realistic," "handsome villain" has a place alongside horror icons, "grotesque monsters" and unnerving characters in this game of ultimate horror mashup.
He's not realistic in the slightest though
He behaves like an anime character
He's a goddamn psycho, of course "he behaves like an anime character".
Sure. I don't have a problem with characters being over the top
People shouldn't call it "Realistic" though.
As much as I hate his design and character, at least they committed to the whole anime thing they were clearly going for.
I don't really get the whole "he doesn't look like a horror character!" thing either. I'll concede his actual character is really generic and a bit poorly written (although there are genuinely cool aspects to his lore), but appearance-wise, he works perfectly as BHVR's take on beauty horror.

But the teenager egdy squad in masks are perfectly fine.
Aside from being a horror icon Myers is literally just a lanky man in a mask and jumpsuit.

Don't know if he fits or not in game but he looks ridiculous
I'd run from a guy covered in blood holding a baseball bat
what you talking about? You wouldn't run from that?
What the little sprinkles of blood he has? And not really if I saw that irl walking down the road id just laugh. Looking like a bootlegged joker to me. But like I said its up to the person what they think is scary.
