Can someone show me a good wraith?

TicTacTicTac Member Posts: 2,168

I see so many people say that he is really strong now. Has someone gameplay of a good wraith against good survivor? I would like to learn how to use his lunge in different loops.

Im not bad at wraith, but it seems i dont use his full potential bc i struggle against good survivor and the wraiths i play against are not a problem either.

So if someone knows a streamer or played against a good wraith and recorded it, can you share it?

Wraith is Bottom B tier at best

If I know I’m going against good survivors I’ll throw on all seeing with either swift hunt or Bone clapper for addons. I’ve had some success against good SWFS with surge,PGTW, save the best and brutal strength. Good survivors will abuse windows, with all seeing you can see the slow vaults back over at L and T walls/shack. While chasing a good survivor cloaked try to get in front of the shack pallet/vault or any window in general and block them from vaulting or slamming the pallet, uncloak and use his lunge to get hits, good survivors won’t have enough time to run to the other side of the loop or shack window due to swift hunt and the lunge after uncloaking. Having map sense and simple things like baiting out DH etc..helps tremendously. Like If I’m on shelter woods and the survivor preslams a filler pallet that’s 30yrds away into shack window, you know that you can afford to brutal strength the filler pallet between the rocks, cloak up and get in front of that window before the survivor can vault into it because you’ve done it so many times because of map sense..

You can check out TricksterShadow 7k+hr killer main on twitch and watch his past broadcasts as he plays a lot of wraith

I can show you my gameplay. Though I don't remember if I had any loops in the videos..But I can tell you.

Basically at short loops where you can catch up to them. You want to camp the pallet and uncloak. You should catch them.

At shack. If you can get the position where you're at god pallet side and they're waiting to vault the window. You want to uncloak at the door frame so you can either go on. Or you'll catch them at the window before they can make it around shack or back through the window

At LT walls you want to uncloak just at frame where you can go left and catch them before the second window. Or if you think they'll double vault the window. They'll come right back in to you. It's a 50/50

If you want any specific situations and want me to make a video of them for you. Just let me know

Disclaimer: I do not pretend to be the best killer ever. But I do just fine with him vs red rank groups and 4k most of my matchs. And the ones that I don't usually are 3k by the end. But maybe you can learn something from my videos

You need to play Wraith to his strengths to do well with him, which is catching up and getting first hits.

Whenever I'm not using the dirty Devour + Ruin + Undying build, my main build for Wraith is BBQ + Make Your Choice + Surge + Pop. Surge and Pop lets me keep the generators at bay, with his fast catch up using Pop on generators isn't hindering unlike most other killers. Make Your Choice gives him that bit of extra lethality he desperately needs, which combined with BBQ and his mobility makes for a very aggressive playstyle.

Wow i expected someone to post tru3 since he boasts about his wraith skill so much. Very impressed.

Check Tru3talent on twitch or youtube.

Check out Otzdarvas match with the "Gentleman" at hexy's tournament ("best of the best" or something like that), there you can see a Wraith against a tournament squad. Tru3 also plays alot Wraith.

Thanks. With the videos i understand the tl-mindgame better. So most of the time i should play tiles just normally? (Jungle gyms, short/long-wall)

  • TicTacTicTac Member Posts: 2,168

I know that match. It was only a tournament squad by name. They couldnt even figure out that he uses all seing after the match restart.

Thats my style, yea. I don't mind trying to mind game them. I'm sure there's someone better that uses his uncloak at those tiles effectively though. It all comes down to your style and what you're comfortable in doing.

I basically play hit and run..And when they get to a jungle gym. I try to get rid of the pallet there. And leave them. More times then not I come back to that exact tile later. And it won't be safe anymore.

But even if you watch my blight videos. You'll see at certain tiles. I don't use his power and just try to mind game. You don't ALWAYS need to use their power. And that's something to learn. When and where to use it.

I'm not especially great with Wraith, but I've had a lot of success playing him like Pig at small loops - you occupy the pallet so the survivor can't drop it, cloak, uncloak, and use the lunge to swing around the structure and hit them. Usually I fake out going one direction for a split second and then commit to the other. And if they're smart and run away from the loop, you just don't uncloak and chase them.

The advice earlier in this thread is great, though - I'd already done that shack play with Wraith, but the TL wall is new to me and I'll have to try it.

But for example a car loop is too big for wraiths lunge, right? I cant get a hit on this structures if they mirror my movement.

All depends on the car loop. Come to think of it...I can't think of any. What I would suggest there is use cloak tlo force the pallet drop quickly. Instead of circling it 3-4 times until they drop it. Break it and let them run. Or follow them if they're heading to a tile you know is unsafe. But its better to force it quick and move on. Because you can just make it unsafe for the next time you're running someone through that area

@TicTac I agree with this. Usually I get on their butt and start uncloaking as we are getting to the pallet to force the pallet drop at safer pallets. If they start/continue to run the loop, I will get a hit before they are back to the pallet. Sometimes they stop to camp the pallet and get out of position just enough for me to block the drop animation. I don't try to avoid the stun, even if I don't have enduring. But you could bring it with spirit fury if pallets give you trouble. If they start to run away from the loop, I will cancel uncloak and get back on them.

Wraith has tons of build options. Before the buff I was running corrupt, bbq, pop and whispers and killing 80% of survivors and I don't main him and only had about 900 hours in killer at the time. I tried a Dowsey build for the hook obsession challenge that was very strong. It was Make Your Choice, Furtive Chase to make the unhooker the obsession, and Nemesis to give me 4 seconds of aura read on the obsession. I would hook someone, leave to find another survivor and when the person was unhooked, turn and head back to the hook. Nemesis would let me see which direction the unhooker was headed so I could get the one shot. It was fun for me to play but probably not a fun build for the survivors.

I don't think he is an S Tier killer, but he is very strong. Survivor teams that split up to do gens can give you trouble. but they give all killers trouble, especially if they know how to loop and evade. 99% of survivors in PUB matches are not tournament players, and just because they are rank 1, doesn't mean they aren't a potato. Same with killers. Just because you get and can stay at rank 1 doesn't mean you are a great killer. Ranking is so damn easy. You need to practice using each killer's unique powers to get good at them. Some are just easier to get good at than others.

He still suffers a lot if you don't play him with best add ons. The hit&run technique has it's flaws. Imo he is B or B+ tier, like Demo and so, he is good and finally playing him doesn't feel like an uphill battle everytime, but he is not one of the 5-7 best killers.

My personal experience after 2k hours is that rank 1 players are usually better than the rest. Tournament players are an entirely different species as they exercise team strategies, coordinate their loadouts, perks and stuff like that. Of course not everyone at rank 1 is super great but in my experience you have to be good to be consistently rank 1. I've also never seen a complete potato at rank 1, only because someone made a mistake doesn't mean he's a potato. Rank 4 is a different story as the rank reset makes sure you can't really leave red ranks especially if you play mostly with others. But whenever i get completely trashed and have like 3 hooks or so it's usually a squad consisting of rank 1-2 players.

it was just the first match i remembered, probably they didn't expect someone to play Wraith at the tournament and rather learned everything about Spirit, Nurse, Hag and Pyramid Head before but left out the rest :D

There are different car loops but his lunge is generally not super strong on tiles where survivors can see you. Of course you can try to look shortly in the other direction (you can even walk backwards during the boost) but in my experience the lunge isn't fast enough to prevent the pallet drop, if they're not complete potatos. It's a bit of a different story on tiles where they can't see you coming. But generally, try to play with your red stain. Like turn to the opposite side while finishing the uncloak and then move backwards/ sidewards and turn around during the speed boost.

A strategy i sometimes use is uncloak at the other end of the loop, they expect the 50/50 but i just wait for some second while hiding my stain. Some will panic and drop the pallet and run away. Sometimes you can moonwalk. It's not exactly a powerful strategy but funny.

Also, 99% your uncloak to force pallet drops. I've never seen a survivor having the balls to just stand there and delay the drop because they expected you to fake. They either drop or run away, if they run away you can get the hit usually. This strategy works very good with the Shadowdance add on (actually the only good use of this add on).

Furthermore, while bodyblocking is a good strategy and essential with him, NEVER get stunned while cloaked. The stun animation is super long. So if you try to 99% your uncloak, make sure you are not to close to the pallet. And also don't follow right behind them through a pallet, better walk around it while cloaked. Most survivors know about this stun and will drop the pallet if they see you following them closely.

Keep in my mind that he is a stealth killer, many forget this means you need to set up things sometimes. Take your time to move behind objects and approach from unusual angles. A lot of Wraiths don't do this and rather play him very aggressively, running straight forward into the gens, not caring if they get noticed and just use his great speed to catch up. Also try to outplay Spine Chill when you suspect someone has it. This is something i still don't do that much and try to incorporate more into my gameplay. It works very well because SC users are usually relying on this perk and don't care about their surroundings.

The tournament match was weird from the start. I dont know how they could accidentally bring a banned item.

Yh there are different car loops. Is there somewhere a list from all loop names? Sometimes i struggle to explain about which loop im talking.

  • YordsYords Member Posts: 5,549

Disagree, he is just Wraith with the same counterplay, any good survivor will remind you how strong he really is. He is much better with his buffs yes, but not A tier.

  • lemonswaylemonsway Member Posts: 786

Wraith is pretty straight forward to play, you need to understand that he sucks at chases, you don't wanna chase people, you want to sneak and hit them, sneak onto the next person and hit them and so on, trying to keep them injured for as long as possible and being always on the move so they can't pinpoint your location, so they can't feel safe to do things. You need to understand the maps in order to move around efficiently and apply this pressure, you don't wanna take long routes or routes with poor coverage .

This way you'll never actually be engaged in chases since you're just hitting and running but you get to do it so much that all the sneak hits will maximize your Deviousness super fast. However if you do decide you have time to engage in normal chases then the best thing that can happen for you is Survivors Camping pallets, if they are Camping Pallets you can cloack and uncloack and force a 50/50 on which side you'll lunge with the uncloack speed boost wich makes it hard to react most of the time. Beware you can't redirect your speed boost, this is not Pig's Dash. You either get a hit or you get the pallet, depending on what loop it is getting the rid of the pallet is not so bad if you can do it early.

Bodyblocking people from reaching windows is also important, any survivor who vaults has always the advantage, if you're after someone and you're unsure if you can lunge at them before they vault then don't lunge.

For this way of playing, and based solely on base game, Sloppy Butcher is a pretty good Perk, slows the healing down when you hit survivors with your basi attack or Lunge so it gives you more time where Survivors are able to go down easy. Nurses Calling is the ideal partner for Sloppy Butcher, it will let you know if any survivors are healing in a 28 meter radius. Whispers will let you know if there's is someone within 32 meters of you so it's a good option to find the first survivor at the begining of the game. Walk around and see if Whispers light up, if it does there's someone inside a 32 meter radius from you, check gens first. For a final perk you can have Tinkerer or Thantophobia, Tinkerer will tell wich Gen is about to be completed so that's pinpoint accurate information on where you need to go if that gen is important for you and Thanatophobia applies a % based debuff to survivors repairing speed when they are injured and sicne you want to keep them injured then this is a good way to slowdown any progress they make if they choose to stay injured and power through the gens.

If you've got more options than just base game then BBQ and Chilly can replace Whispers, no early game gain but it will reveal auras and give % bonus to BP at the end of match, Discordance is also another option. Then you have a number of gen slowdown perks, Ruin is effective but has the obvious weakness of being a Hex Perk, i mainly use Surge, pretty useful regularly, other alternative is Pop goes the Weasel. Make Your Choice is also a nice option, increases your lethality, Devour Hope also does that but it's a Hex Totem.

    No doubt

    He really master wraith

I think you won't get good if you think wraiths power is in his lunge. Hit and run wraith is the optimal way to play him.

If you're trying to win with wraith, he wins by keeping everyone injured with his free first hit and that builds up into downs.

I've hit rank1 without learning with zero loop skills

  • TicTacTicTac Member Posts: 2,168

I know how to play wraith. But so many say his lunge is strong. So i wanted to know how i can use it better. I have no problems winning against the average red ranks but sometimes there are good players and i struggle.

The way I find top players is the dbd.onteh leaderboard website. Has all the different killer categories.

you can click on their name and check their steam profile to see if they have a twitch, which most of the top players do.

you can use it to find the best of every killer and survivor at least the ones on pc.

here’s the top 5 for uncloack attacks on wraith
