Dead by Daylight: More mechanics or not?

I wanna ask if you think Dead by Daylight could use more mechanics that we could play around in Trials?

I personally believe that more mechanics deepen the experience, with more stuff to do, goals, objectives and experiences the game would be made even better. I want to hear what you think.

We are NOT talking about Game Modes here, we are talking about things that can be added to trials to make the game better. Examples of such mechanics are Totems and Chests. But could also be something less impactful.

Looking forward to reading those of you who want to go into details below. Thanks.

Yes. Dbd needs ALOT more 'mechanics' to do.

Yes, it should not overcompensate things but especially the survivor gameplay outside of chases (and since there are 4 survs that’s kinda a majority of a trial) is pretty boring. Holding M1 on gens, totems, injured survivors.

I tried to make some concepts for this actually, new items for survivors, an advanced objective related to healing and gen repairs without just making them longer..

for killer gameplay m currently the pressure is already high enough/too high and they have at least variety on gameplay when using different killers and mastering one killer is completely different to mastering survivor gameplay

I think survivors need something to make them as interesting as killers are with there unique powers. Give survivors unique powers! :D

but yea I don't play survivor very much because of how much simpler it is than killer.

Yes. Dbd needs ALOT more 'mechanics' to do.

I have always believed Survivors ought to have Unique abilities. However this time we are speaking about things to add to regular Trials.

Maybe after the game isnt riddled with bugs.

In terms of regular trials, It'd be cool if they added objectives around the map that:

-Change how loops are played(eg. building walls and/or pallets)

-Buff a survivor after collecting for a short duration(maybe sprint/healing/gen speeds)

-hinders all of the survivor if not completed(when the objective isn't completed after a certain amount of time survivors are oblivious for 60 seconds as an example)

-Are collectables that assemble into a new item for survivors(similar to chests but can be done forever at a slower pace)

-Provides knowledge about where the killer is or the perks they have(like a camera room or a bookshelf)

I think I could just keep making this list forever because of just how simple this game is atm.

As long it has a low chance of bugs and makes the game more entertaining I am in.

This would also lead to more unique killers that won't be OP with certain builds in most matches or are severely bad to play with. Fun for both sides but an experienced person that plays that certain killer won't struggle later in red ranks.

Yes, a bit more mechanics, something else to do would make things more interesting, in my opinion.

All good possibilities. Its probably be more for the Survivors since Killer is very busy already.

I don't know why OP decided it was necessary to use all 10 available poll options when 3 or 4 would have sufficed, having four different ways to "yes" just convolutes the process and the information people are supposed to gain out of the responses.

But yeah, more mechanics would be nice. (Seriously, is anything else more necessary than just that one line?)

@Seiko300 The People seem to like the options, You can add them all together into 3 if you want. I did it to get knowledge of the rationale too-

The most knowledge, insight, and rationale is typically gained from the people willing to comment- you can just ask people to elaborate.

If everytime a poll was conducted you listed out every single possible option that anybody could ever think of- you'd never be able to streamline the responses together to form a proper conclusion. Obviously an exaggeration to make my point since the forums limits you to ten responses (but I have no doubt you'd probably have gone over that if you were able to) though my point still stands. Being able to compare the data quickly and immediately between those that responded yes and those that responded no rather than having to sift through "yes and..." four different times for each kind of response doesn't add all that much value.

If the people really liked the options as much as you say they do, you'd see polls all the time make use of every single available poll option much more frequently- but that's not the case at all. Save for the specific circumstances where you need those poll options like "what's your favorite killer?" and then you've somehow got to fit 24 reasonably different answers in 10 poll slots. That is understandable.

What isn't understandable is : "I like Nemesis because he can hit through windows" and then "I like Nemesis because he can break pallets with his tentacle strike" and then "I like Nemesis because he has AI controlled zombies" and on top of that "I like Nemesis because he's a cool character from Resident Evil which is a great franchise". Sure I guess you got more information- but isn't that information redundant as far as the poll itself goes? Couldn't every person just answer "I like Nemesis" and then write their reason for why??

    It just doesn't make sense.

Dbd needs more something, but not sure its more 'mechanics' to do.

I feel like this game desperately needs more variety. New mechanics could potentially do that without causing some balance headaches. I'd be more in favor of a new game mode if I had the choice, but new mechanics would be much better than nothing imo. My only hesitation on that would be if the new mechanics would make the game even more beginner-unfriendly (as DBD is already insanely complex for a new player)

OP, I also just wanted to say that I appreciate you adding a bunch of options to the poll :) I see too many polls here with 2 or 3 black and white options when a lot of opinions usually falls into a gray inbetween area

Yes. Dbd needs ALOT more 'mechanics' to do.

I thought about the devs making 15 new mechanics and 3 of them are chosen randomly for each trial, And each chapter would bring in a new mechanic.

Yes. Dbd could use a few more 'mechanics' to do.

Definitely, especially if it adds an extra step or two before the gates are opened.

Of course, were that the case, there'd be more balance changes to be made. Extending a trial would benefit a killer more, so something would need to be put in to even it.

I'd also be for varying the types of skill checks, rather than just that one skill check that revolves around a circular target system.

    Yes. But nothing too complicated.

Most of these options are fairly similar, which is eee but okay enough.

Anyways, I think there should be 1 more mechanic. Something to do with generators that makes them slower without using the mechanic, but faster when you do. Something like Scott Jund's idea in that one video he made awhile back would be good for this I think.

A good way to slow down generators without just increasing the time they take imo, while also making the game more based on the interactions between Survivor and Killer, seeing as it forces Survivors to go around the map more.

    No.

Dbd can barely handle the mechanics it has as of right now, I don't think more mechanics is a good idea.

i think blastmine and flashbang brought in a whole new perk class, and with boon totems coming i think were gonna get alot more perks that are more, interactive.

One thought I've had is perhaps Survivors could have a task they can do involving putting up say destroyable doors in areas if they've got a specific perk or a new kind of toolbox. Similar to how we've got destroyable door pallets for killers at the moment, the Survivor could spend time building them with skill checks!

How about having the hatch spawn and de-spawn to random locations until only one survivor remains? Would make it harder to camp them/use keys until the EGC starts.

Yes. Dbd could use a few more 'mechanics' to do.

I definetly feel like dbd needs some new mechancis, like needing fuel to work on generators and maybe find spare parts to give a small boost to repairs, just something that makes survivors have something more to do than hold m1 while also helping the issues of generator speed.

  • bm33bm33 Member Posts: 5,958
    Yes. But nothing too complicated.

They could add mechanics but would need to rebalance some of the killers to compensate. Right now there are killers that get a 4k pretty much before 1 gen is done. Adding more mechanics to survivor would make it impossible against those killers that are already able to dominate a match.

Changes to existing systems would be possible, but that isnt really the scope of this poll.

    Yes. But nothing too complicated.

I think if survivors have more objectives, it gets harder to just gen rush the killer.

They should just test some things in the PTB.
