Attention Steam and EGS players: a quick hotfix will be going live today at 11AM ET to address file validation reliability. Thank you for your understanding!

Why is gen regression so slow?

Wouldn't the game just be straight up better if generators actually regressed at a reasonable pace? I hate the fact that every killer needs to relegate a certain percentage of their perks to slowdown if they want to be the slightest bit competitive at the highest level. It's not an option, it's mandatory because of how easy genrush is. It basically sets a guideline that if your chase lasts more than 40 seconds, you're losing a generator.

Should kicked gens regress faster? Is this the way to have a balanced game? Should Ruin be nerfed to compensate for this? What are your thoughts on the state of gen speeds?

Gen speeds should be doubled so instead of 1 second of survivor time to r seconds of regression time it is 1 to 2, especially since the killer has to stop and kick it.

Ruin could then either be a 1 to 1 or 1 to 1.5 situation if they felt it had to be better than normal. However, they could also just leave it as automatic gen regression at 1 to 2 when a gen is not being worked on. Ruin is annoying cause it activates even if the killer is across the map, and you lose progress going for saves, heals, etc..., so leaving it like this would likely be fine.

I think corrupt intervention should be base kit.

When you kick a gen it should lose some progress, like 5%.

When you kick a gen (whithout pop) it's basically useless, it only starts regressing and gen regression is way too slow.

  • That's why they have improved tutorials, with these survivors should know their objectives from the start

Brutal strength could be buffed a bit. I agree that regression is too slow and I play survivor 60-40.

I had this suggestion for years. The base kick is way too weak and barely does anything since it takes easily over a min to lose about 50% of the gen which is just way too long and slow.

My suggestion would be to increase the gen regression by 100% and nerf ruin to compensate it AND if you kick the gen it loses instantly 5% progress as a "mini pop" so there is actually a reason to keep kicking the same gen if someone comes by at the second you leave to touch it to punish that kind of gameplay.

Or of the 100% extra regression is too much or annoying for survivors just make that a survivor needs to do a little 3 sec animation to "repair" the damage of the gen to get rid off the regression. This would also prevent the "touching and running away" to prevent the damage and make it more of a decision you need to make instead of just doing it midchase.

It never made sense to me that Ruin that already give "free" regression has a 200% bonus regression. IT should be just the regular 100% but kicking/Surge or Eruption should be at that 200% regression making it more an incentive to kick gen manually or to make other gen perk more rewarding to play with.

You should see some of my games in solo queue. I've been playing for three years, and I'm a yellow rank. Rank reset is a thing. People have lives outside of DBD. It's absolutely ######### painful. Games also shouldn't balance around the highest level players, but that's what you're asking for - the game to change to make things easier for killers at the highest level, the smallest portion of people playing this game.

"Games also shouldn't balance around the highest level players, but that's what you're asking for"

Have you... Ever been in ANY multiplayer community before?

Games ABSOLUTELY should be balanced around the highest levels of play to prevent abuse. Actually, hang on, I remember a TF2 video about this.

Watch this video before saying another post in this thread:

    No of course not.

There's no point buffing it and nerfing the perks.

    that wouldn't make sense.

Most killers can perform extremely well already if they use the regression perks that the game currently has. Buffing base regression would improve their performance even more. If the devs implemented a change such as double regression speed at base. That would mean that Hex; Ruin would regress gens at 400% of the current regression rate (a gen would regress from 100% to 0% in 80 seconds) which, as I'm sure most people would agree, is just too strong.

I think you're misunderstanding. The request is that when kicking a gen. It regresses at 200 % as if ruin was up. No one is requesting ruin gets buffed to 400 %

  • indieeden7indieeden7 Member Posts: 3,035

I never said that. I said that if base regression was doubled, and regression perks were left unchanged (with Ruin being 200% regression), Hex: Ruin would therefore regress generators at 400% the rate that base regression does now.

    X x 2 = 2X

    2X x 2 = 4X

  • GamerEzraGamerEzra Member Posts: 855

I didn't ask for 200% base regression speed.

It should be more then it is now, like 125-150%.

when 3 gen strats exist, gens should stay the same.

  • 1miko1miko Member Posts: 262

no perk should ever be base kit, not bt, not ds, not unbreakable, not pop, not corrupt. The game's current state is close to good, regression should need to be adressed, slowdown perks are already strong enough to deserve a perk slot you might be willing to sacrifice. maybe something made into basekit is a flat % of regression per kick which would resemble pop but without needing a hook. kicking is useless as is but appart from that the game is somewhat okay.

Getting 3-genned is no one's fault but the survivors. Even when I play Survivor I recognize that.

You should recognize an area the Killer is protecting and immediately start focusing on it.

We're talking about gen regression here, not survivors being punished for mistakes they made during the match.

    because game is survivor sided.

Gen regression is slow because your role as killer isn’t to babysit gens, running around kicking them over and over. It exists to stop survivors from leaving gens 99d. It’s also a mechanic that is significantly buffed by multiple perks.

But let’s see, if they buff base gen regression, what will happen?

    • Those “gen rush” games where survivors split up and do 3 gens in the first few minutes will remain unchanged.
    • However, 3 gen strats will become much more powerful. Games will become much longer in the later stages because a lot of killers will run around kicking gens and not committing to chases.
    • Solo survivors will be at a bigger disadvantage because they won’t be able to coordinate gen progress. SWF will be much less affected for obvious reasons.
    • All existing regression perks will be indirectly buffed, which will probably require some nerfs because stacking slowdowns with buffed base regression speed would just be ridiculous.
    • Mobility killers will be made even stronger because they’d be able to charge around the map kicking and regressing gens. Slow killers will feel very little benefit.

So I don’t really think this would fix many of the real problems people have with the game, it would just widen the gap between high tier and low tier killers, and between solo and SWF, and would also encourage and empower people to run Forever Freddy type builds designed to grind the game to a halt, which the devs obviously don’t want in the game.

In short: no, this is a bad idea.

Thats the point, if you buff base regression, then regression perks would be even stronger, aka unbalanced,

You have to think what any change would affect other stuff.
