DbD myths that deserve to be busted

We as a community have a lot of different opinions about the game.

There are some of these opinions that a large portion of people think to be true while they are frankly straight up incorrect.

For example the believe that 110% killers have worse map mobility then 115% killers.

Walking 100m will take a 115% killer 21.7 seconds while a 110% killer will do that in 22.7 seconds. A neglectable 1 second difference.

The difference between 115 and 110 matter a lot in chase but as far as map traversal goes there is pretty much no difference while if you ask most people they would say that traversing the map as a 110 is so much harder then a 115

What are some myths believed by this community that you think should really be busted

Myth: Booping a pig's snoot is a guaranteed escape.

Truth: Actually, it is if the Pig doesn't take the game seriously like Almo or CM.

Okay, but seriously, I don't really have myths in mind that hasn't been mentioned.

Myth: The killer going after me is tunneling

Truth: Tunneling is the killer going after one target and only one target until said target is dead and ignoring all others, even if it's to the killers detriment.

The killer finding just you because your teammate abandoned after a unsafe hook isn't the killer tunneling you. The killer finding you working on the generator you were working on before you were hooked and they came back to it figuring someone might have gone to keep working on it is not them tunneling you. The killer hitting you because you body blocked with BT on and now for some reason the killer is chasing you is not them tunneling you. The killer going to the other side of the map looking for people, not finding anyone, and then coming back to the hook you were hooked at but you didn't bother to leave because you thought that healing yourself under the hook was a good idea is not the killer tunneling you.

TLDR; Some of you have some incredibly warped ideas of what "tunneling" is to the point where the killer trying to kill you has turned into them being a tunneling try-hard...

Myth: That all survivor mains are entitled and terrible.

Truth: There are some of us who are genuinely kind. Not all of us are toxic.

Myth: Crouching & standing still will alleviate exhausted faster.

    Truth: Only Vigil does that.

This idea of the "meta". A select few perks that are seen as a must in any build. In fact, the vast majority of perks can serve an excellent purpose when used correctly or learn how to make the most of it. I've won plenty of games without the meta, and many others will too, providing they find the enjoyment in experimenting and finding new ways to thwart the opponent.

Also, the myth that influencers are the oracles of Dead By Daylight. Granted, they will have strong knowledge, but weary eyes get stuck in their ways and sometimes the celebrated status may make them blind or dismissive of legitimately good points. Fresh eyes will see benefits or patterns in places more experienced players have not only become blind to, but even possibly offended by the suggestion a newbie knows something they don't.

The yellow glyphs are pretty ######### stupid. Took way too many attempts. Can't wait until it's complete 5 glyphs :(

It's always nice to see older players :) anyway there's no minimum level of skill required per hour played as long as you're having fun. Hopefully MMR will even matches out a bit so you don't get stuck with killers with cat-like reflexes and teammates who demand perfection.

With the ranged killers it's often better to drop the pallet early. Especially with the likes of deathslinger and trickster, I'd drop it very early or not at all.

Myth: You can avoid Wraith's lightburn by looking away.

Truth: no the ######### you cant. I have seen so many players , even experienced players, just casually look away from flashlights as Wraith to try and avoid getting lightburned ,im gonna end up with a stroke.

One of my favorite myths that I managed to bust was whether or not bamboozle's vault speed affect pallets with the Legion. Interesting enough, you do vault pallets faster. I believe this might actually be just common knowledge now, but at the time when the text was changed to make it seem like it didn't, it was interesting to have noticed that it did affect the speed at which the Legion vaults them.

  • CrowmanCrowman Member Posts: 3,634

Bamboozle has text saying it doesn't affect pallets, but it's purely talking about blocking the vault and not the vault speed. Which I think is where the confusion came from.

    Myth: All Bubbas facecamp

Truth: While the multiple downs per chainsaw attack are possible after unsafe unhooks most Bubba mains don't need to rely on this

  • SherrySherry Member Posts: 225

Speaking of MMR, I really liked it when they had it enabled. I heard people complain about it, but that wasn't my experience. The games lasted a lot longer and seemed more chill.

    Thanks for the tip. :)

Myth: Nurse's fine because learning Nurse is the most difficulty thing in the universe and you need to devote your entire life to be a Nurse main.

Truth: You don't need to be a god Nurse to stomp public matches, especially solo queue. You can get the hang of Nurse in a day or two. Slap on some meta build like Ruin, Corrupt, Infectious and Starstruck and you'll stomp 95% of your matches easily. She needs a total rework.

Back before Freddy was introduced, crouching did indeed make exhaustion go away faster

  • ShyPirateShyPirate Member Posts: 107

I also find looping difficult and I'm also an older player (mid 40s) so maybe that's a new myth we can start - the older you are the worse you are at looping.

  • CornHubCornHub Member Posts: 1,864

That sounded like a fun mechanic. Shame they got rid of it.

  • ShroompyShroompy Member Posts: 2,483

yeah, thing is that update also came with Vigil, so already crouching made exhaustion come back 33% faster, with Vigil that would be 53%.

You could also recover from exhaustion while running, but they only removed that later on with The Clown mid-chapter patch. You would recover much slower, I believe 33% the normal rate

I have to disagree. At least with the idea it isn't most Bubba's. There is a reason this stereotype exists.

Myth: Trickster always had a good 1v1.

Truth: Trickster's 1v1 is his only power, and was never good at it, and is amongst the worst in the game at it. Most occasions where Trickster throws 2 knives, a Deathslinger would have gotten a health state. Any occasion in a loop close up where you get hit with 4 knives, Huntress would have gotten a health state. Meanwhile he can't cut that time around corners like Huntress. Most maps are stacked with tiles he's weak at if the survivors play correctly. His 1v1 absolutely needed, and still needs to be looked at, though it might require an actual rework and not shifting numbers.
