The first letters were S I A R and people were like "OMG IT'LL SPELL SPRINGTRAP!!" and then when the E was released full copium mode kicked in going "WAIT IT'S NOT HELLRAISER IT'S GONNA SPELL "I ALWAYS COME BACK"" despite there not being an R there??? Then the teaser came out today and despite the TV resembling what shows up when the cenobytes arrive at the hospital (I think that's what happens anyway) they saw the number 1987 and ran with it
EDIT: Wait no I forgot the "HELL" spectogram teaser and instead of doing the obvious (Occam's Razor) they were like "LADS THAT'S WHERE AFTON IS IT TOTALLY MAKES SENSE"
It just seems like confirmation bias to me. People wanted it so much that they made the evidence fit their theory, even if it didn't quite work in reality.
I totally understand it - it's something I've absolutely been guilty of in the past. Although the constant FNaF spam is definitely annoying.
Thanks for explaining! I can see why people might have thought Springtrap after the S I A R, but after the E came out that should've probably put an end to the FNaF speculation IMO.

Everyone knows it's Hellraiser. I don't believe anyone genuinely thinks it could be anything but, they're just saying it for their own reasons.
