Do you think we will see bigger gaming companies trying to replicate Dead by Daylight?

Had Evolve stuck around and succeeded, I think it would have been DbD's biggest competitor. I loved Evolve and probably would have stuck with that over DbD, but it got ran into the ground.

How long do you think it will be before bigger companies like Activision, EA, Epic see how successful DbD is and think "we should get in on that". DbD has a history of successes and failures and I'm sure other companies with the right amount of resources could learn from that. The game would likely not be horror centred and DbD has already claimed so many iconic licenses, but the asymmetrical model would be used for a different type of 4v1 game that works in a similar vain, maybe more action/sci-fi/fantasy orientated.

Do you think it's possible that sooner or later, DbD will have a large competitor?

I think there are many reasons that REsistance failed, with one of them being that it came with the Remake of 3, which took some of the light off of it. People would also point towards that as being the reason that RE3R wasn't as good as 2, as it took away resources. I'm not well versed in the history of it, but that's what I know of.

If a competitor came out from a bigger company, it would have to be a standalone thing with a LOT of aimed and clever marketing.

With resistance the queue time were atrocious you play survivor 15 minute queue time you play the mastermind you get 10 to 20 minute queue time the promise was there but not the player

I hope so but there doesn’t seem to be much in the works, which is sad.

I really would like to see another horror multiplayer game come out centered on only one license, like Friday the 13th was.

Evil Dead is coming in 2022 at least.

Man I loved evolve when it had a player base. The evil dead game seems to be taking on dbd somewhat

Unless an absolute beast of a company came up with a better game design, diverse and fun game modes, and better coding/graphics overall, nothing is going to compete with DBD at this point. Mainly because of all the licensed Killers on their side. No other company is probably going to be able to get that kind of content or luck.

I have to admit, I played Evolve when it become Evolve (smol 2), and the player base was even more toxic than DBD.

My first match, EVER, it forced me into the healer role, and the only 'free' healer on rotation was the bug guy. The ADVANCED Healer!

Welp, we lost in record time, and my teammates were telling me to drink bleach, that they were going to come to my house and kill my family. One was describing, graphically, everything he was going to do to any sisters I may or may not have had. Really nasty stuff.

I could not find a report button on game, so I took screenshots, then went onto the forums to ask how to report people. Guess what the forum replies were?

'Get thicker skin'. 'Who cares?' 'It's your fault your team lost'. 'Stop being a <censored>'. 'If you did not suck, they would not have said that'. Even a freaking forum mod basically said 'Guys, stop' in the most limp-wristed way, but never banned anyone or gave me any information on how to report people.

It was at that point that I decided I would forever tell people who said 'I am thinking of playing Evolve' exactly what the player base was like, and do everything I could to prevent people from playing it.

  • No.

DBD is one of a kind at this point. Any other game will have to bring something new, like specialise in one license. Unfortunately though, i think with how F13 : The Game ended, it is a very risky endeavour.

Also i don't even think DBD makes that much money compared to Call Of Duty, or Fortnite. I mean they really don't ask you to buy a lot.

Doesn't look like that. While the game design is working and unique, it's still kinda niche and harder to do compared to other more established genres.

Also it's hard to get what makes a game a DBD competitor, because not every asymmetrical game with a horror theme is technically in the same genre. Resident Evil Resistance and the Evil Dead game e.g. have a different core gameplay. Only games that come to mind like DbD are Home Sweet Home, Soul at Stake and Identy V, which all were way too small to be direct competitors actually.

I don't think we will see a direct competitor or an evolution of what DbD is in the near future. Maybe we will never see it tbh, which would be a shame, because there is quite some stuff to evolve from with a fresh idea.

The rift, new DLC's and cosmetic advertisements would say otherwise. None of these things are mandatory to play the base game, and cosmetics and original DLC's are earnable, but many people buy them time and time again. I think BHVR make more money than we tend to think they do.

Just because they've obtained a license doesn't mean no one else is unable to obtain the license for their game that's totally up to the people that own the original rights to said character, however I'm not sure another company would want to funnel so much funding towards a game thats a knock off of something that's as big as DBD look at all the killers and survivors they have in this game , how long would it take to catch up to that level? I think the big companies have taken note and they'll wait for dbd to start dying before they attempt to 1up BHVR.

not likely as every game that has tried to replicate dbd or the asymmetrical genera has failed one way or another major game companies won't take the risk a would rather make more of what is trending

right now its battle royals before that it was looter shooters and before that it was masocore (masochistic - hardcore) games like dark souls
