Sick Of Decent Killer Perks Made Garbage

Gearhead, Trail of Torment, Fire Up and Coup De Grace have been sitting in the Walmart bargain bin for months and even years now. The devs know exactly how to make them good, because the good version actually existed, but they won't do it out of fear that having 5 good lunges in a match is gonna somehow make killer a cakewalk. They can't stand the thought of a simple perk with a simple function, everything has to be convoluted at best and counter-productive at worst. Every time I look through my perks to make a new build, I think of something interesting and am immediately frustrated because I remember some tacked-on downside that exists for no reason other than the balance team being incredibly timid and slow.

As survivor I have my healing build, my sprint burst build, my aura build, my plunderer build, my self-reliance build, my gen jockey build, and my stealth build.

As killer I have my tryhard build and my sloppy butcher build because everything else has too many artificial, pointless side-effects.

Wanna know why every Blight plays the same? Because hardly any killer perks are worth using. The pool of perks that Blight specifically can make use of is even smaller. If simple perks were allowed to exist, survivors would get to play VS something more interesting than the same 3 killers with the same rotation of 7 perks every game.

I literally just run a BBQ, Ruin, Surveillance, with filler perk on every single killer I play. Lightborn if they have even one flashlight. Usually Lethal Pursuer if they do not. That is it.

Just to make you aware: There is still a chain-hook-build. Play Nemesis, Make Your Choice, Dead Man's Switch and Furtive Chase. Make a Obsession, down them and camp in 30 meters range as a stealth killer (Like Wraith or Pig). Then one-hit your new obsession that you can see for a few seconds and repeat. While one after another is going for the safe, the generators or getting blocked. You could use Ruin of course.

But I see what you mean. We have so many cool perks, that are straight bad because of duration or %-Reasons. Otz yesterday said in his stream, that they have cool ideas and he is giving them ideas how you can buff perks with just little number tweaks, but they are taking 100 years and it's frustrating to him like to us.

I actually don't mind Trail of Torment, when and if it is Pyramid that is being paired with it.

If the Survivors are good loopers, they can gen rush. 1 loops you and the other 3 gen rush. Even with DMS going off frequently they'll now its there and wont get off unless you force them. If that happens you cant immediately regress them cause blocked, and even if youre on them once they unblock base regression is too slow/not impactful. At best swap Nemesis (less effective than FC) for PGTW or at something like Surge.

Even good loopers are getting downed by Wraith. It is not so hard with strong addons. I would say what you really need Nemesis but you can change DMS to Ruin, Surge or PGTW for sure.

Small Game has been ruined. DS has been destroyed. OOO has been destroyed. So don't feel bad, it's not just killers.

I find most perks even on survivor side are kind of you're never going to use. I probably only ever run perks from the non-dlc survivors except for Decisive Strike most of the other perks seem not all that useful same with killer there's probably a small portion of useful perks among so many that aren't that really worth slotting. It'd be nice if they made more perks actually worth running.

Wraith is easy and boosted to hell and back so yeah. His addons make Killers like Pyramid Head's look like dollar store toy isle trinkets

  • The_DaydreamerThe_Daydreamer Member Posts: 585

I know but when I called Wraith out, people were coming to me like "You just need to counter him..." without giving me any counterplay or something to do against him besides dOinG GeNs.

2/3 of those perks you listed were "destroyed" because they were straight-up unfair most times.

This post is talking about how bad killer perks were made even worse and how they shouldnt have been, and how killer has way more incompetent, counter-productive perks compared to how many different perks you can run on survivor and still have many positive results while having fun with them.

  • TacitusKilgoreTacitusKilgore Member Posts: 1,381

Yeah, were all getting pretty terrible perks. I Think we should stop talking about "bad killer perks" and "bad survivor perks" and more just focus on the fact BHVR is making bad perks in general. Seriously, when was the last time we even got a half decent set of perks?

That is not even near the truth. All of those perks either good or even great. People really don't get how strong OoO still is. Knowing which perks the killer has like BBQ, Blood Warden, the new nemesis perk, nurses calling and more is so great. DS still does his job like before and if you are doing gens, then you do not need DS since you are not getting tunneled. Small Game is even better now since you can see how many totems were destroyed and getting noticed by traps were unfair.

Don't hold these double standards. We know both sides have bad perks that deserve better, but this time it is about killer perks. Let them have their time too.

I highly doubt anyone would be running Coup if it was 100%

If Coup generated tokens upon hooking survivors it would actually be pretty viable. Why it's tied to generators popping I will never know as it makes NO sense.

Trail of Torment ah, yes. This one falls into the category of "Killer perks that would be decent if they had a shorter cooldown" which there is a lot of. Oppression is another killer perk I would love to run if it had a shorter cooldown.

Gearhead is kind of a mess so I won't comment on how I'd change it but it definitely needs some love. And Fire Up is just sad, same with Remember Me.

I wish there would just be a patch where they update buff all the weak/never used perks on both sides and rework some but that's unlikely. I'd also take them reworking just a few on both sides every so often too.

    -BBQ & Chili

    -Pop Goes the Weasel

-Nurse's Calling (on Stealth Killers), Franklin's Demise (if more than 2 items are brought in, sometimes if 2 or more)

    -Save the Best for Last

-Surge (mostly on my Michael Myers build)

    And then on occasion:

-Hex: Ruin (mostly favor POP tbh)

    -Hex: Haunted Ground

    -Hex: Devour Hope

On my Killers without all the Perks obtained, I use other Perks for fun and becasue I have few other choices.....but I def know I fall back on my usual go-to picks....and with very good reason. Of I forsake some or most of these Perks, I def suffer and have to do way more to get where I would if I just had one or all the Perks used. I really really want stronger incentives to use & try out other Perks without feeling I'm gonna throw a match just for it.

Killers aren't victims. Sorry. Survivor perks have been destroyed or made much much weaker too. Don't act like it's only one side.

Small Game is useless now unless you had a hard time counting to five. It no longer does anything against, Hag, Freddy, or Trapper, and totems are harder to find. There probably aren't many people who have used Small Game more than I have. It's garbage now.

DS now punishes survivors for playing the game, instead of giving them a chance against someone who tunnels, which is damn near every killer at every rank. Tap a gen for a split second? DS is gone. Start to heal yourself? DS is gone. How does that make any sense? But killer mains bitched and moaned and now it's useless.

Object? LMAO. And which perk tells me what perks the killer is using? I missed that one.

Imagine the synergy of Gearhead if it worked with great skill checks. Would make Gearhead and oppression an actual viable combo instead of one I run because it’s fun

First of all, I said: "We know both sides have bad perks that deserve better, but this time it is about killer perks." Dont twist my words like I would ignore survivors. You are trying to make it something about you while the topic is different. That's why I said, this time it is about killer perks. And I never said Killers are the victims.

"Small Game is useless now unless you had a hard time counting to five." No, I cannot count to five in Solo Q. And it never should do something against those killers. Thats basically their only power and survivors should not have more power about it. Small Game does its job pretty well - it is a good perk.

"DS now punishes survivors for playing the game, instead of giving them a chance against someone who tunnels, which is damn near every killer at every rank." Excuse me, but if you are healing yourself then you are not getting tunneled. Clearly your definition of being tunneled does not match with how the game thinks tunneling is. It is still pretty strong and you can still force the killer by jumping into the locker. Or he will waste much time waiting for your DS.

"Object? LMAO. And which perk tells me what perks the killer is using? I missed that one." So, you dont even know what that perk even does and you still call it garbage?

At the end you twist words just to fit your opinion and you are not even trying to understand different views nor those perks.

Just to remind you: Both sides have awfuly weak perks. Even survivors. Just look at Wake Up!, Babysitter or Buckle Up. No one is denying that. The only problem here is that you are trying to make it just about yourself, but that is not the discussion. Maybe next time sweetie.

Question: are there too many perks in general?

You know what I mean? What if teachables were the only perks in the game, and became teachable much earlier (level 20, 25, 30). Could that help? I'm saying this because it seems that the high number of perks is why virtually all of them are watered down. Hundreds of existing perks makes it difficult to create new, effective perks.

  • OniWantsYourMacaroniOniWantsYourMacaroni Member Posts: 5,898

Yep,incredibly slow perk balance is one of the reason why this game feels so stale sometimes.

Like,at least pick 5 perks for each side every chapter/mid-chapter update and maybe even ask the community how they think these perks should be changed (Just to get some more ideas).

  • MigrantTheGreatMigrantTheGreat Member Posts: 1,295

While i agree, the only way for BHVR to make that 30-40% perks viable is to change the meta up.

The meta is the main thing that needs to be changed in order to let other perks shine.

  • Devil_hit11Devil_hit11 Member Posts: 1,929

The problem with Coup the grace is token system. Limited uses for perk just feels really bad. Coup the grace would be better if it used Unrelenting perk model. It would be single sentence.

Increases killer's basic attack lunge distance by 60%.

If there was one perk that I wish was good. It would be this perk.

I think second perk I would dream for it to be good is furtive chase. If only the perk lower TR, did not lose tokens upon killing obsession and did not deactivate after the obsession dies.
