Are hitboxes broken?

ToxicFluffiToxicFluffi Member Posts: 9

So im a 50/50 Surv/Killer Main and when i play Survivor i often have those moments (mostly against Legion, Freddy, Hag or Spirit) where i get hit by stuff that doesnt really hit me, but when i play killer it has to be spot on to hit a survivor (usually play Billy or Huntress). Now my question is does it have to do something with connection or are the hitboxes just broken and Behaviour just hasnt fixed it in 5 years?

It goes by the Killer's perspective and is completely due to connection. We do have to remember that as quick as we can percieve each others input, it is NOT instant.

It's because of your ping as a killer, the server normalizes it so if you have lets say 50 ping and the time between the hit and the stun is less than 50 miliseconds (0.05 sec) in your screen, then the server will see the stun first and won't count the hit. The less ping you have the less likely this will happen, but realistically you can never prevent it fully. This is annoying as a killer but on paper this is as fair as it can be.

    Hitboxes are trash

I often accidentally hit trees and rocks as survivors run around them. I recognize when it's definitely my own fault. However there are just as many times when I really believe my aim was true and I still hit the rock etc.

It's mostly just latency issues on the servers or the player(s).

To be honest I only really notice the hitboxes being bad when trying to hit a survivor healing a downed survivor, playing as huntress is a 50/50 on whether the hatches will hit a square hitbox or miss like it has a super small hitbox even if you hit them dead on. (Though that's most ranged killers at this point.)

The other time is when I desync from the server, which happens a lot to people sometimes, no matter how good your internet is there will be moments where you get server desync and things just go bad for you. Other than that it's mainly latency issues on the server or the players.

I think they should have something done to make them more consistent especially the ranged killers, but I wouldn't know what to do to fix those things if I am being honest.

I did notice that once when a survivor healed a downed survivor as trickster. Knives were clearly hitting her face but it still didnt connect xD Was pretty confused for the moment

Yeah, that's a problem that most killers face, for some reason survivors' hitboxes are super small while healing which creates moments where you can hit them point-blank or throw a hatchet at them and it misses. It's so weird, some examples honestly make the small hitboxes feel worse than others, from what I understand the secret to how the hitboxes get so small is that when you crouch as a survivor while healing a downed survivor it halves your hitbox creating situations where the killer is hitting you, but your hitbox is invisible.

Hitboxes themselves are mostly fine, latency is what causes weird hits.
