Why are devs trying to avoid adding game modes?

JarolJarol Member Posts: 1,985

I was seeing a question about this related and they always say that it is not in the plans for now but always in the future, I also wonder why they do not consider adding a fast mode and a competitive mode, currently dead by daylight today is a mode competitive, are you in a ######### war or playing a game like someone here on the forum said.

At the same time, the community also demands a way to play against bots by choosing your favorite survivor or killer.

A 2v6 or 2v8 mode as many speak.

They always leave it in the future but now I realize that this game is very unbalanced or outdated, both because it does not have game modes such as balancing in games by survivors, killers or perks.

Perhaps there is a future to do it if they dedicate themselves to doing it now, because if they do not comply, there will be no future for dead by daylight.

It would probably take too much work and time and BHVR is not exactly known for putting a lot of effort in DBD. It would break their schedule bad.

Cause they can't do 1 game mode let alone add another.

Opens an avenue for them to explore new game mechanics in a safer environment. Currently if they have a mechanic to introduce baseline they might end up breaking the only game mode they have. However add an alt rotation game modes and you can test upcoming perk ideas new mechanics in a safe experimental environment. Best of all gives players something fresh and new to play around with generating hype for upcoming chapters whilst also allowing them to dodge pitfall they would have made had the alt game mode not tested the water's.

It would really screw with queue times

DbD's playerbase is quite big in comparison to other less succesfull multiplayer games with several game modes. And those don't have too big queue times either.

I think the main issue is that everything in DbD is designed around one specific gameplay. perks, killer powers, addons items. It would be pretty hard to consider how all of this would work in another mode. How they would effect different game objectives etc. And definitively stuff might be coded only with that one mode in mind.

Would probably take a good amount of work for something that wouldn't get them much compared to graphic updates, qol content, balancing and new chapters.

Imagine they dont make a bot mode because they know a huge portion of the killer will go there.

Just imagine having 2 mode the queue time are going to be awful

Actually brilliant idea. So much so that Grinding Gear Games are pretty much doing the same thing with their core game in path of exile by introducing basically a nightmare mode. To test ideas on a larger scale without disrupting the main game because this new mode is set up to be nightmarish on purpose. It'll be like their 5th or 6th game mode they're adding on top of an upcoming sequel.

But ummm...yeah as brilliant as that does sound, it requires effort. 5 Years since this games launch we haven't even seen so much as a hint of a new mode nor any interest under the excuse that it will hurt queue times and etc. Same time, theres upwards of 60,000 people playing this game at any given time just on steam alone with a max player cap per match of 5....we aren't short on players by any means. So all that "I can't find a game!" stuff is bullshit.....you can make what you got work with what you got. Problem is with as heavy as they try to make this an E-sport they'd have to revamp everything to make it more casual to actually get a broader pull of players for matches. Drop the ranks and fix the core game fundamentals that allow good play no matter how trash you are at this game and suddenly you got more access to broadening the game for your audience. Cause at that point you can add more power, more objectives, more co-operative opportunities, less excuses for not allowing in game communication for survivors, larger maps, different objectives, more rewards per match and way more thematic content as a whole without your player base raging all the time because XYZ is "Imbalanced". If someone can notice something is imbalanced its because the rest of your game isn't fun enough to draw their attention away from a mistake. Remember Haste Hunters in WoW? Some do....most have no idea ######### I'm even talking about or how broken it was because they were having plenty of fun and doing just fine on characters who aren't Horde Troll Hunters....they got patched and nerfed....did anyone care including the people using it? Nope....cause the rest of the game had plenty of other fun options so you wouldn't care.

As it stands right now its just a big hamstring thats gonna eventually churn people out till they lose patience and do something else. Like Civ 6 or whatever that meme is....

Dead by daylight has been around and popular for the past 5 years with only the 1 game mode, but now for some reason not having multiple will kill the game?

What is it that people want when they say more game modes? What could you possibly want to do since many survivors in my games as killer and survivor act like they're allergic to gens.

With those things aside, the biggest issue with another game mode is splitting the player base between 2 queues. The queue times have gotten better when they let cross platform play happen and even then it can still take time to find you people to play with. Now if we essentially split the really big group of people playing into 2 groups playing different things queue times will ramp up and nobody will get a chance to play and I don't think that's smart for anybody.

Cause the support for another game mode would be terrible

Plus all of the changes that will need to happen would take to much time on their "tight" schedule

Also making new content is more important then adding another game mode

And they would need to add a Competitive game mode first before 2V6-8

  • MoxieMoxie Member Posts: 551

All it will do is split the playerbase and increase queue times

  • PigMainBigBrainPigMainBigBrain Member Posts: 1,812

The default game is already in a competitive game mode. That was the whole point of SBMM.

  • SasukeKunSasukeKun Member Posts: 1,858

All this time and money spent on this game and they can't come up with any other game mode than doing gens? It's so tiresome, then again they'd have to be balancing a whole 2 game modes that people would be complaining about.

AHHH the good old "split the player base" pretext.

Even tho that no longer makes sense today. Since there are games with smaller player bases that have have multiple game modes. That excuse made sense 3 years ago. But now a day since the active player base is larger than it's ever been, and with cross-play. Naw that does not make sense nowadays.

A pure survive game mode would be fun. In that mode the killer and the survivors just have to focus on chases. So no more focusing on gens, or trying to complete gens. The survivors have to survive for 10 minutes. Which would be a lot more fun than doing gens, or focusing on defending gens.

Hot take: Nobody would play a 2v6 or 2v8 mode after a very short amount of time.

Solo Survivors wont play it at all. Why should you risk to play with 5 or even 7 players who dont know what they are doing, when playing with 3 is already too annoying? So, there will be many SWFs playing this mode.

And Killers are already bitching about SWFs, but they will probably go against SWFs all the time.

Let alone that you need to balance it so that two Killers cannot break the game by any way. And again - players are already complaining about 1 gamemode, what will happen if there are more than one gamemode?

Last but not least - the reason why there are only 2 Zombies was because more might be problematic, because too many entities are in the Trial. This is 7 at max (4 Surivors, Nemesis, 2 Zombies). In 2v6 you would have 8. In 2v8 10 entities. +2 for a potential Nemesis.

Do you want to kill last Gen Consoles immediatly?

  • Johnny_XManJohnny_XMan Member Posts: 5,487

Why would they add different game modes when they can't even balance the current one they have?

  • ThiccBudhhaThiccBudhha Member Posts: 5,895

They are gauging the response to adding a competitive/casual mode in their survey. So it is clearly on the table, at least.

  • AkitoAkito Member Posts: 600

Because ot took about 4 years and 50k players to get a fast matchmaking

  • Mister_xDMister_xD Member Posts: 7,236

every individual Killer is supposed to be their own gamemode.

too bad you can hardcounter like 95% of them using the exact same strategy - and the few that didnt work on just got changed to be "more in line with the others".

    yay

  • PigMainBigBrainPigMainBigBrain Member Posts: 1,812

Theres no problem with last gen consoles, both hardware and software wise, the PS4 and Xbox outperform most peoples modern hardware. No excuse for why this game does poorly on those consoles.

  • Aven_FallenAven_Fallen Member Posts: 11,590

And what is your point exactly? They wont optimize the game for a 2v6/2v8-mode nobody would play.

  • UnifallUnifall Member Posts: 749

They can't even release a chapter without bugs. Adding another game mode would destroy the game lol.
