I come back to the forums after a bit and now I see everybody going crazy about BHVR?

You asking that is like asking me to read the entire bible to you in one day.
Anyway, BHVR announced they had used NFTs to bring Pinhead into the game (before this they denied ever using NFTs, thanks to @Impose for pointing this out).
NFTs are problematic because a lot of them are scams and they damage the environment drastically.
People are pissed that BHVR thought this was a good idea.
That's the summary of it.

It's a chaotic mixture of sbmm destroying this game rapidly and bhvr working with an nft company. The forums is a battlefield right now save yourself.
By the way, remember how everyone was sure it was a scam and fake news? Where are those opinion pros now?

I think this is one of the main issues with the whole fiasco.
I just got back after a lengthy break too.
Seems BHVR has bungled another update (not surprisingly).
I don't know what the problem is either.
Involvement in NFTs, internal confusion in the company around NFTs, game crashing bugs around boon perks, the implementation of a kill switch they refuse to use, and an EAC issue that's making the game literally unplayable. Sure, that last one is a Steam issue, but the timing is still hilarious enough that I wanted to include it.
Seems like they did a pretty good job overall today, honestly.
Technically they didn't use NFTs, they partnered with a company who used the NFT. This was so dbd wouldn't be banned from steam. Bhvr can plausibly deny that dbd doesn't use blockchain tech and doesn't allow exchange of NFTs / crypto so they haven't violated any Steamworks rules.
Dev team knew about it to some degree in order for the NFT to create a steam dlc code for the chapter.
would you put it beyond the higherups to have told them the codes would be linked to physical merch?
Not sure why they're all worked up. Lots of hysterical screaming and door-slamming. Did they threaten to remove shirtless David or something?
Legally you are correct. But their tweets on Monday revealed they were working with the NFT company for months to give them what they wanted, so morally it's indefensible. Their tweet yesterday about the NFT not existing in DbD itself was very much a CYA ignore the issue legalese tweet and is likely all they can say without angering their new business partner the NFT place.
That would make them a dishonest employer wouldn't it?
Morals are irrelevant in the business world, clearly demonstrated by the company regarding this whole thing, wouldn't you agree?
DBD KBMM: Introducing Campers and Hackers to time-invested players. Exposing a lot of the toxicity that new Players would normally experience to "Veterans" who are usually more vocal.
DBD Supporting NFTs: (NFT's are basically digital "Keys" whose creation and transfer require about 5 gallons of gas for every digital transaction (if using Ethereum), which is not only bad for the environment, but is also a waste of resources and endorses the exploitation of under-developed but resource rich nations, where fuel is cheap).
Boss Protocol, if they are using Ethereum, are planning on using an estimated 50,000 gallons of gas purely to setup a blockchain of Hellraiser PNG's created for them by BHVR using DBD assets.

That they're dishonest in general? No. That they would be dishonest with their employees about this thing? Yes. I'm confident the company knew about this at several levels.
This is the same company in which a main developer did (presumably) not know that they were working on a colorblind mode...
Also, it just sank in just HOW much of a scam this whole mess is:
The nfts are images of the pinhead model for all we know... for an unlock code that isn't even a given.
So, they are really trying to charge $200+ for something that costs less than twenty bucks in the regular store AND can be easily obtained through blender (which is free) and similar programs.
And i guess we will still have some surprises with this NFT thing.
Are you ready for an exclusive Cenobite skin that you can't have in-game but only with buying the NFT stuff ?

This is clearly a Butterball skin. Pretty sure we won't be able to buy it in game.
And it's well specified that some drops will be available only for those holding the Box (paying the NFT).
BHVR said they provided in-game models and blabla the partner does whatever it wants with them. Fact is BHVR didn't release a Butterball model in-game and i'm sure they have a contract with Boss protocol about it. Time will tell.

But here's the thing: the moment they have anything 'nft exclusive' they'd be off steam, because that moment the game would fall under the rule that there mustn't be content in a game that is purchased through nfts, no matter if it is a different company selling that #########
You cant really blame them, I tought it was a scam too because I didnt think the higher ups would get into something with such bad press as NFTs, I guess they were greedy enough to stir the wasps...
That's why they have started to merge with Epic Games. Everything was calculated.
