CPU spikes to 100% usage

My game mostly runs fine at 120 fps, but quite some time ago (2 or more months ago) I started noticing fps drops. At first they occurred very rarely and were not a very big issue, but recently (last 2-3 weeks) they have become more frequent and much more severe.
I've noticed that the fps drops are because CPU spikes to 100% usage. This mostly happens once or twice per map on the first play through. Meaning that if I play the same map twice, I'll get the drops only the first time. That's just an observation, not 100% sure about this. Most often the drops appear immediately after hooking survivor as a killer or as in this case - when unhooking survivor, but it may appear in other cases as well which I can't pin-point.

When the performance drop started happening
Minor drops - 2 or more months ago. Severe drops - 2 or 3 weeks ago.
How much of an impact this had on your performance
Game is unplayable when fps drops happen.
And any other relevant info
I used to run the game on highest graphic settings maybe a year or more ago without any issues. Since then the performance has gradually decreased. That's sad.
Comments
Notice that when FPS drops, CPU spikes to 100% usage and GPU drops to 1% usage.
@Nameless_Ghoul_ Is the same thing happening since the update this week?
It's been happening since the Pinhead Update.
It still happens for me, along with several FPS drops/stuttering despite having a high end set-up.
I still get some fps drops causing small stutters, but have not noticed cases as severe as before. And the small stutters that I get - they don't seem to be related to hooking / unhooking anymore, but rather just random ones.
And the issue is back with latest patch. Overall CPU usage seems higher as well. If before it was 50-70% usage, now it is 80-98%.
Yep.
I remember when the Spirit released and my Game used to barely run over 50% CPU and maybe 60-68% GPU while in game.
I haven't played DBD in over 2 months now because my CPU chokes to 100% and my GPU is constantly fluctuating from 70%-90%.
This game doesn't have the Graphics to warrant such bad performance. I can play Devil May Cry 5 on Ultra Settings and barely go over a whisper, but 20 minutes of DbD will make my temps hit 90°C and chug like a jet engine.
@Medichealer I've heard that it is actually good if GPU usage is high. Meaning that game is utilizing it fully. But don't quote me on this one.
Regarding CPU usage, I found that NVidia Shadowplay was using 25-30% CPU which is also odd. I don't remember it ever consuming so much. Disabling it got rid of the terrible spikes for me. But of course it doesn't take away from the fact that DBD has increased performance issues after the patch.
I'm actually done with this crap game. Uninstalled. With all the bullshit bugs and this atrocious performance and absolutely disastrous MMR system. Turns out that even disabling Nvidia Shadowplay doesn't stop this game to eat the whole CPU. Had like 5 second freezes with screen literally frozen.
I haven't played in like 3 months.
I sometimes play my Switch version if I'm out at work and I have it on me, since I got a lot of Bloodpoints during the anniversary and Halloween.
Otherwise I have given up on this game on my PC, which is sad because I have 2,000 hours since 2017.
The performance, lag and the fact that my temps and CPU are being choked to even run this game is horrendous.
