Wireless Hotspot vs. Wireless Router

I've fixed my internet connection problems by using the wifi hotspot on my phone. However, I would like to purchase a wifi hotspot to replace this, but as I was looking I noticed wireless routers. I don't know much about either, does anyone knowledgeable have any advice on which would be more feasible?

Why wireless? Use wired. It's a lot more stable and faster.
It would just be easier to deal with. Don't I need like a whole thing to deal with a wired router? Or is all I need is a plug in? I don't know about any of this obviously. I know with a hotspot all I need is a plugin.
get the wired router it will be a life saver.
i recommend xfinity we use that and it works really well all my games run smooth and you start to notice how laggy other people are compared to you.
do remember that you should never have a strong wifi and a bad computer or the other way around. if you're wifi is strong and computer is not it may not be able to handle the wifi
if you're puter is strong and wifi isn't the wifi can't do anything
always be carful choosing the connection because some make you sign a contract to use their stuff for a year and that can be bad because they might give da poo poo wifi
My computers ######### but I use a XBOX so I should be fine?
How easy is it to set up? Keep in mind I am a dummy.
Also, I've started looking it up, and I'm a little confused. Do I want a router, or a modem...or both? I thought if I got a router I could pay for an internet service through that...same with a hotspot?
ETA:
What about this?
Your ISP should provide a modem/router combi for you to use.
And they're SUPER easy to setup.
How do I find my ISP?
We've already got one router/modem set up in the house. I just want to get a personal one for my online gaming.
Okay, wait, new question...if I keep the internet I have, but get a new, more powerful modem/router for my room only, would that help solve my problem?
You don't need to know your ISP if you already have a modem/router combi in the house.
What I would do is get another router, run a wire from the modem/router you already have to the one you bought, and then connect your console to that. I do that to get internet downstairs as our modem is upstairs.
I talked to someone from best buy and they did confirm that getting a stronger router would help with the online gaming, but I dont have access to the first router, meaning I cant run any wires (it's not my house). So I think wireless is my only option.
Then you want a wifi mesh.
But I can tell you from personal experience, it is NOT good for gaming. It's fine for general internet access, but not for gaming. Not unless you're spend top $$$ on a decent setup.
So I DON'T want a wireless wifi router? I'm literally about to buy one. What other options do I have? What about the hotspot?
Okay so what I ended up doing was buying the owner of the house a new router. Surprise, Rachel!
Okay, so I messed up. I accidently bought a cable modem. Will this help or hinder me?
That's gonna make things worse.
Okay, i'm gonna be straight up blunt.
1) You don't want a cable modem.
2) If you want the best connection possible, you want direct access to the modem, buy a router and wire the router to the modem.
3) If you can't get access to the modem, for some reason (and you should fight for that if you're paying any kind of contribution to the internet), then you want a wifi MESH. Because a wifi router won't do a damn thing for you. Routers do not connect to other routers unless you buy very specialist hardware (Usually called a WiFi Bridge Router).
Oh. Okay. Well, what ended up happening was I tried to sell her on the idea of the cable modem, but she didn't have a cable outlet. So since I had already convinced her she needed to replace her part, she went ahead and ordered the new router. So...it all worked worked out! Thank you for all the help, I apologize for my dumbness.
No problem. Glad it's sorted
plug in and create pass and hotspot and boom ya got the wifi
Yeah I made it complicated and spent a hour and a half with tech support to discover I had two wires going into the wrong ports.
