The Bloodpoint Cap is too low

DBDVultureDBDVulture Member Posts: 664

I've been playing since nearly the beginning. I have just about everything I want unlocked except for things that have not appeared in the shrine yet.

I have ~3.7M bloodpoints thanks to some login events that raised my points after I got a +2M point reward for getting Survivor and killer to Rank 1 in either Jan or Feb. I have another million or so stored in old tomes waiting to be collected - if I can be bothered to collect.

I have nothing I really want to spend points on so I have shelved the game until "cake season". The BP cap is preventing me from playing the game. I cant get points so why should I play? Why should I spend my points because I don't need any more "normal" unlocks. I have shards to by whatever I want and I always get more than I spend when I do play the game (sitting on ~42,000). I still have hundreds of cakes left over from last year on Nemesis so it isn't even about that either.

If you can normally hold 1M points and you can get seasonal rewards for +2M points it stands to reason the bloodpoint cap should be 3M points. People who want to power level the new killer are going to do that.

Your decisions as a developer are keeping me from playing this game. You really don't need a +1 reason for people to not play DBD. If we look at the old steam charts we can notice that 20,000 people decided not to play DBD this year.

You can't edit your Bloodpoint total with notepad anymore (yes this was a thing that some people did in 2016). Is it not time to raise the cap? Cheaters will likely find some way to cheat anyway - all you're really doing is keeping honest people from enjoying the ability to store points.

Would it really be so terrible if someone could store 3M points without bonuses? Oh no you could almost store an entire prestige /gasp. The world would end.

There's few players to have ever reached that many bloodpoints legitimately anyway.

  • Huge_BushHuge_Bush Member Posts: 3,487

I only play Claudette and I constantly have to grind the blood web because of always hitting the million mark. There’s no reason to keep it as low as it is.

  • Nathan13Nathan13 Member Posts: 6,077

It needs to be pushed up to 2 million.

I Thing the BP Cap should be removed.

Shards don't have a Cap so why do BP need one?

  • ThiccBudhhaThiccBudhha Member Posts: 6,498

They do not want us to max the new killer in one day. That is pretty much it. You have to save up hella codes and tome challenges as well as time a grade reset and very likely waste more than you saved.

  • malloymkmalloymk Member Posts: 1,411

But why do they care about if a killer is maxed out on the first day? Like, in the grand scheme of things, who cares? And new killers are usually behind the eight ball anyway since they're learning new mechanics. Why not help them out by letting them get some half way decent perks?

  • SepexSepex Member Posts: 1,308

BP cap is just another insight from old 2016-2017 DBD that's outdated and needs fixing.

  • OogieBoogieOogieBoogie Member Posts: 164

They're worried that people will get bored and the hype of a new chapter will die quickly if they immediately unlock everything.

  • DBDVultureDBDVulture Member Posts: 664

People already do that anyway. I dont claim my tome challenges whenever possible. It literally becomes an XP bank. If I buy the new killer with 9k shards I can drop somewhere around 4.5M instantly.

With BBQ you can get a minimum of 60k per game with no cakes or anything.

Most of the time I keep my xp at 90% full. Every hour or so I have to leave party if in a SWF and spend points on killer. It's really disruptive to have the caps so low.

  • ZeidoktorZeidoktor Member Posts: 1,281

Personally I feel like the per-match cap is too low more than I feel the overall cap is.

How often do you as survivor, max one category like, for example, Boldness from running the Killer all game only to get barely anything in any other category due to lack of opportunity? Or gen jockey most of the game without encountering the Killer much at all? Can't get much more then 8,000 bloodlpoints in that scenario.

In that situation, I'd think it better to either increase the per-game cap or let the excess bleed into other categories.

If the cap was raised significantly we wouldnt have to hoard points in the bloodweb.

The whole threads about "Savings bloodpoints in the web" are due to this silly limit. Bump it up to 10m or more.

At the very least it should at least let you go over the 1mil if you forget to dump points and play a match.

Losing points makes me sad fam, I'm trying P3 all these killers.

  • brokedownpalacebrokedownpalace Member Posts: 7,990

The bp cap should be raised but I don't understand why you can't simply spend like 50k BP on whatever, play until you get close to the cap again, and then spend 50k more, etc. Like I understand that shouldn't be necessary but you said you're literally refusing to play the game because you're capped. If you really wanted to play I'm sure you'd just do what I'm suggesting.

  • DBDVultureDBDVulture Member Posts: 664

You dont seem to understand. When I'm actively playing DBD I normally stay around 900k points and spend them when I get close to the cap. There's really nothing to buy or unlock. This is the "newest" killer I own and he has 260 cakes and over 100 black wards.

The time where I needed to spend Bloodpoints to unlock perks is long since gone. I have every perk I want that has been introduced into the shrine (waiting for some of the newer stuff).

If I spend these points now they are "lost" on stuff I already have plenty of anyways. If I spend them during the event I get cakes - not that I really have much of a reason to spend cakes anyway.

The last game I played I killed all four survivors out of habit but the main goal was to unlock the first tome milestone for killer. In short I got zero points for my efforts so after kicking 8 generators or whatever I quit and logged out.

I don't get this blood cap rage... there is enough to spend BP on. Each killer needs different perks or has different builds

If you decide to hoard BP for no reason, then this is your choice. There are 3 months before a new chapter releases and you can start saving like one week before release. Just get down to 0 BP if the cap is such a problem

@DBDVulture you save the BP for the cakes? And then? have 500 offerings to get even more BP? What do you spend them for? If your problem is that you don't have stuff to spend BP on, what would you spend them on if you can hoard even more? Nothing I guess, right? You are basically asking for higher numbers to look at if BP have no value for you, so why care about a cap?

  • Psycho_Psycho_ Member Posts: 351

just remove it, its antiquated. I understand it keeps people playing to a degree, but they are your points. you should be able to amass whatever you want without a cap.

@DBDVulture btw "If you can normally hold 1M points and you can get seasonal rewards for +2M points it stands to reason the bloodpoint cap should be 3M points. People who want to power level the new killer are going to do that."

That argumentation makes no sense. So if you set it to 3M BP, it would be 3M base +2M season rewards, right? So base should be at 5M. I mean 7M. I mean...

Also Im pretty sure that the BP cap is not the reason for the player base drop xD

And again, if you can't spend BP and that keeps you from playing DBD, then you are asking for something else to spend BP on, and not rising the BP cap, that wouldn't solve your problem

  • DBDVultureDBDVulture Member Posts: 664

Do you think it is logical to offer a monthly reward that is greater than the player can hold? I think it is not.

I realize most people are still in the grind. but I don't think a 3-5M bloodpoint cap is unreasonable. If the cap were 5M then at most people could hold without other sources would be 7M. That's really not a lot of points when you consider unlocking a new character to P3 status.

A 5M point cap would let you collect the 2M from last month and still have some "wiggle room" before you cant hold any more points.

Normally when I play I just spend points to be around 800k. This gets tedious to routinely have to stop playing to prevent being capped.

I like the game enough to still consider it. But when I can sit on a huge point stack like this that overflows well beyond the normal point limit AND there is an upcoming limited event where spending more points in a short period of time is heavily rewarded then I am encouraged not to play right now.

I think you didn't read my posts entirely. I don't get your complaint about BP cap as you obviously have no reason to get BP anymore so the BP cap wouldn't help you in any way.

Regarding everyone else: there is enough to spend BP on and there shouldn't be an issue with the cap, as you can spend BP. It makes no sense to store BP in any way or to keep them at 900k. The only reason for storing BP is instant character maxout on new releases, and you can play 11 of 12 weeks without having to store anything.

And I don't get why losing BP is discouraging you to play. If you don't need them, then I would guess you play for the fun or not? Is the only reason to play to get more BP? For what reason if you don't spend them anyway?

All the argumentation makes 0 sense to me. Like seriously. From any of you. Just to point out again: a higher BP cap is ONLY vauluable to instant character maxout on new releases, there is literally no other issue.

btw if you didn't know: the reason for being able to store 3.7M BP is that rewarded BP are on a separate "BP account" as you cannot chose to pick them, you just get them. So if it exceeds your account, it would be lost without having the chance to spend BP before you get the reward. This is for every rewarded BP like login rewards etc.

And that means that if you have 0 BP and then getting the season reward, you have a million of "wiggle space" until you reach 3 million

This is false: "a higher BP cap is ONLY vauluable to instant character maxout on new releases".

When playing in a SWF group it's easy to have everyone bring cakes and you can earn 100k per game with a score of 20k points. Playing killer with BBQ in the same situation and you're likely to get ~30k points x6 = 180k per game.

The 1M BP cap was imposed in 2016 to slow cheaters down. This system is more than a little outdated as BP rewards are tallied server side.

What possible reason do you have where you want the cap to stay low? Most people will try a new killer when underleveled but dont bother playing them regularly until they have every perk for their build unlocked. You act as if you were forced to play a new character to earn xp that could only be spent on that new character. DBD has never worked that way.

In fact you can go back to some killer releases in the past on the steam forum and you'll see threads like : why is no one playing the new killer? The answer is because they are farming all the BP to max out the new character on a killer that has everything unlocked.

Did they ever officially state that? What would stop cheaters from editing 1M BP, spend them and edit them to 1M again? Is that so much of a slowdown?

And I don't think it is THAT easy to have a full party of streamers that regularly. In normal games I see that never happen outside of bloodhunt events and when I level a character to level 50 I have like 5 BPS. So yeah, level out in a full party once to 1M and then spend, what, 1,7M to get another 5 streamers?

I dont have a reason to keep blood cap low. I just say the reasoning I hear to increase is nonsense. Regarding this topic I even heard people say "the grind is too big, we need higher BP cap"

If people dont play killers until maxed out, this is pretty much their decision. I mean if this is the issue, then the solution would be to remove any progression from the game completely, right? Just make it like custom games, every perk available from the beginning, what is the point of BP then? And that is in my opinion not what keeps you playing a game. Most people say that the lack of meaningful progression is the reason why F13 didn't grow

  • Psycho_Psycho_ Member Posts: 351

it is mainly to keep people playing during a new dlc, but at this point no one has everything p3 maxed unless you stream or play the game 24/7. That's why I think its antiquated at this point. even though i have all my killers and some survivors p3 I'm missing perks galore on them.
