What's the main problem with dbd?

Vyne456Vyne456 Member Posts: 838

I was wondering about this. I was planning to do a poll for dbdtwitter but I wanna hear about the people on the dbd forums. And no I'm not insulting or talking about MandyTalk or any kind of moderators in BHVR, but I wanna see what you guys think of this problem.

None of the 4 issue here is a problem I have with Dbd.

    none of the above.

the devs do a great job actually - they are just sadly a little bit slow on almost everything. But that’s mainly due to company/priorities. Quality Assurance could still need some improvement (probably not a direct problem with the testers but the time they actually have to test everything… with each update complex regressiontests get bigger and bigger)

stale meta (will be addressed soon FINALLY) and stale (surv) gameplay while frustrating killer experience is also one of the main problems. As well as optimization/performance.

Where's the none of the above option

    None of the above.

    In a nutshell: Repetitiveness.

And there are many things in DBD that lead to repetitiveness. - In fact: It's kinda unavoidable if you're not 100% throwing/meme-ing and playing your own little game according to your own rules when the match starts.

    The Devs...

I think DBD is objectively fine because I know what it is. It's the best 7/10 game ever made HAHA. Can't expect every game to be the best ever made but while saying that the biggest issue is the devs over time didn't process the game which is why it's stale now. Games like Fortnite are live service just like DBD but the main difference is that Fortnite continues to add stuff to the game whether it's new games modes, updates, un vaulting weapons keeping the game fresh while creating No Build Modes to appease newer and returning players. DBD just chooses not to be the ultimate party horror game and that's what frustrates me the most since it has all the licenses to do it...

I think the repetitiveness of the game is actually the main issue. Outside of the events, the gameplay loop is very similar in almost every game. It's been nearly 6 years since the game's release and we still have just the one game mode. The Devs seem to be throwing around the idea of a new game mode internally if the most recent survey is any indication. Even so, we haven't heard anything since and the lack of variety makes things kind of dull after a while. I kinda wish they'd take some risks in the game mode department and just make something absolutely bonkers. As long as it's fun, I wouldn't mind.

If you put in NOED you should list Dead Hard as well 🤪

I would've said an abundance of dummies, who can't help but use slurs, death threats, virtuoso cussings and horrible wishes after every single match. But that's, probably, the main problem of the gaming community as a whole, not just Dead by Daylight exclusively.

The devs aren't a problem. I mean, I'm sure there's a person or two who are lacking, as no company is pitch perfect, but overwhelming majority of DbD devs are great. They might be slow on adressing and fixing some of the game's issues, but I can't really criticize them for it, because: 1) I haven't had personal experience of working on DbD, so can't speculate on how hard it is to solve those issues; 2) they do, eventually, fix those issues one way or another. And you can't really blame them for never listening to community, because they do, in fact, listen. Plus, it's not like there's a single company out there, which runs a multiplayer game for years and never ever makes decisions, that might feel dumb or bad.

NOED and Boons are merely perks, they aren't a problem per se, even if they might need some tweaks going forward. In my opinion, saying that any Boons or Hexes are a huge problem for DbD is like saying that the main problem of a certain Battlefield game is some gun or two. And SBMM, I feel like, is the prime example of nocebo effect in action - everyone says it's horrendous, and in turn everyone believes it's horrendous. When in reality it's not THAT much worse than previous system - just as random, just as bs at times. People just remember bad matches much more vividly than good and normal matches, while "past" always associates with "better times" - that's just the nature of human brain.

I feel like the grind is the biggest, most tiresome aspect of the game for me at the moment. But, on paper, I adore changes they're planning on bringing to prestige this summer, so I guess we'll see. Would've loved getting more competent random teammates more often, but it's not really something BHVR can easily "fix" to my understanding. So my short answer to the question - grind.
