Bingo! Recently had to rebind struggle to my f key due to my spacebar breaking
I'm up for this, too. The downsides would be negligible and the upsides would be noteworthy from both a killer and survivor side.
See my previous post in this thread:
People don't like button mashing too often in general, not just in this game.
As someone who has recently developed carpel tunnel syndrome, I’d be in favor of this.
What difference does it make? It’s all the same.
Xbox player btw.
I think this mechanic is better than simply removing it.
It's certainly better than the current mechanic and I would be certainly be okay if it were implemented. Whether it's better than outright removing it, I'm not entirely sure. I could go either way, personally. But this is much better than the current mechanic.
Choose to inconvenience the killer by not dying immediately.
This has to be a joke. Someone killing themselves on hook is far more "inconvenient" to the survivor team than the killer team. You take a hit to points if someone let's go and most of the people who do this are just sandbagging their team. Most of the time they wouldn't do anything useful if that's what you're afraid of and stops a situation where someone gives up and sandbags the team. It's essentially DCing without all the points. Why in the world would you be against this? You get EXTRA hooks. More points from someone who doesn't care to stay, anyway. AND it helps people who have issues with pressing the same button repeatedly. It's called wear and tear, no matter how gentle you are. You continue to rub something, you'll rub it off. If you continue to press something, you'll break it. And some people have carpal tunnel. There isn't a downside.
How about this for all of you against this change, the devs could just add the OPTION to change it. You really wanna button mash that bad? Fine go ahead but don’t make the rest of us suffer.
For pc players make your button to struggle be Mouse down (aka the rolly bit of the mouse) makes it a lot easier
I was replying to people saying we should make a macro
If they were to do something like that I'd want them to make the struggle phase infinite or at the very least double unless everyone's hooked. However it would increase progressively over time until it is way to insanely difficult to even complete skillchecks etc.
@Maelstrom10 I originally thought the same thing. However, you got to remember newer players would die frequently that way. Gotta make a fair mechanic.
I'm not personally fond of the struggle mechanic. I can envision a possible new one though.
Picture you are on the hook, and a circle is in front of you. On this circle, there are 4 smaller circles in the North, south, east, and west positions. Every so many seconds or so, (we'll say 7 for ease of example).....one of the smaller circles flashes in some way and you have to point your left analog stick/WASD keys in that direction.
If successful, you stave off one of the entities "claws" and can continue to live.
This prevents repetitive button mashing and continues to make sure you have to pay attention and not run to the fridge for a drink or something.
Just one of the many ideas I have, let me know what you think. (hopefully no one else has thought this one up yet.)
The biggest issue i have, is that the shoulder wriggle has already borked one of my controllers after playing for a year, trying to use the left stick is like trying to guide my character, killer or survivor, through mud.
Apparently its not just me either, as i had to look it up.
Edit: I'm certainly not saying get rid of struggle but an alternative to wearing out controllers or my own hands would be a pleasant welcome
I could live with this so long as it is pretty forgiving. Like you have a 3 second window and if you happen to push the wrong button first you don't just die. This shouldn't be difficult in any way shape or form for the player. The goal is for there never to be an "accidental" death or damage to the players devices or hands through repetitive actions.
EVERY game that has a button mashing mechanic should be changed. This is an idea that was never good. It has not aged well. It's time for button mashing to go the way of the dinosaur.
You obviously haven't played very many well made games. Well made games at the very least give you the option to press and hold a button, while others either make it a single press, or completely remove the mechanic. Button mashing has been studied, and the results published, in several medical journals since the arcades of the 1980s. Some of the damage endured by button mashing is permanent, especially in those who’s bones have not yet capped.
so many instances where i died to lag because it made me stop struggling 🤡
Shift and W as killer? Yeah always, it's a habit of playing survivor lol, in my deep mind Im thinking I walk faster holding shift as killer, I'm a 4head
I personally would just prefer an automatic button smashing like I currently have with my macro script, but just ingame so I can also alt+tab out quickly. I can see where u coming from, but I personally wouldn't like that. Maybe it's a habit, but I like to just relax on the hook and do nothing except waiting to get unhooked because at the end of the day it's only that what really matter: getting unhooked. And myself buying time for my mates.
Also wiggling needs to go aswell. The mechanics are outdated imo. They already were outdated on release let's be honest. It's like playing a shooter game with a Wii controller (no hate towards Nintendo fans), it's just clunky and not best.
Since you are a mod, can you please make this a topic to the devs and give us a report what they think about that? Would appreciate that a lot
@ceridwen309 @MyNamePete @Dreamnomad @edgarpoop and @Kaelum mind putting your thoughts into that thread. It is a suggestion other than removing it entirely.
That would definitely be preferable to what we have now, but any QTE in a repetitive game like this is bound to grow stale. I'd be ok with making it optional for 500 BP or something.
For my fellow Console Players:
Just roll your stick in a circle. It still struggles for you, and saves your joystick/thumb.
The worst thing about struggling is how it is programmed: If there is a lag while you're struggling, you will die even though you kept smashing the button. The devs should really step away from that polling mechanic. It's so frustrating.
If the Devs listen to our pleas can you guys at least acknowledge how flawed of a mechanic this is? And work towards removing it or changing how it works? On console its deadly fingers slip for 1 second and that's it your dead.
It's not good game design
@MySpaceBarsBroken is this how your space bar broke?
@Thaznar once again, what about controller players?
