The use of the phrase "gg"

sulaimansulaiman Member Posts: 2,500

I have a question. What does "gg" mean to you?

I know that it is supposed to mean good game.

But in this game, people use it even when matchmaking gave the rank 14 killer 3 red ranks. How is a game thats unfair from the start a good game?

Also, and thats the main point, i notice that the majority (of killers and survivors alike) by far only writes "gg" if THEY won. If they lost, only a handfull of players ever wrote "gg" in games i witnessed.

So what does "gg" mean to you, really, how and then do you use it?

Its meant to be used after literally every game tbh.

Means good game. Its like good morning you say good morning even if your morning is awful.

People just say gg to be polite not because the match was actually positive for everyone and stood out.

it's two letters that are used cause what else do you say in post game other than toxic crap?

The problem with GG was that it should be used first by the losing play to concede that fact that their opponents played well to beat them. It's a courtesy thing. But everyone only says GG when they crush the other team and it's slowly becoming more of a thing toxic people use to indicate they enjoyed the easy win. So basically if you wanna be polite

    gg when you lose.

gg when you win only after the losing team says gg first.

Well it means good game as far as I know.

I actually never say gg in post games chat. I find it cringe if survivor or killers say gg when they’ve “won,” but don’t otherwise.

I think it’s more fair across the board to just never say it.

I say it (or would if ps4 had chat) because I had fun during the match

For me, and i assume alot of people who've played games alot, its essentially the handshake at the end. You acknowledge the opponent(s) and thats it.

Never do i plan to use GG as an insult or to rub salt in a sore match, it pretty much just instinctive for me, a habit that i dont feel the need to break

I do get it though, some find it grating if someone says gg after they stomp them, but sometimes people just need to grow a thicker skin, and lose with dignity

(Oh but if you use gg ez then you're just an ass, win with a bit of grace)

It's used exactly like it is in sports like baseball where after every game you say it as a sign of good sportsmanship, it doesn't necessarily mean that the match was good.

i usually say 'gg' in the end chat.

i dont really care weather it was a good game or not, i just say it to be nice and friendly.

    still get salt lol

    GG generally means 'good game'

GG can also be made during the game when one side appears to be winning, resulting in degrading someones self-esteem, which is the exact opposite of what a sportsman like player does. GG generally is used respectfully, rightfully so. On the other hand, people can feel like being absolute jerks and bring someone down for their own pleasure.

It's a truly sad world we live in that revolve around diverse personalities.

If I'm playing killer, unless someone was exploiting or something, I always say gg to everyone as a matter of politeness (and I usually throw in a "gl next game all" as well).

Sometimes I will congratulate them on a last-minute heroic play at the exit, or for doing some pro flashlight saves or something. Sometimes, I will proactively apologize for soft-camping someone (while inevitably also pointing out that teammates were being aggressively hook-divey, or trying to obviously distract me while doors were open).

Unless someone was being wantonly awful during the match, I always make an effort to be a good sport at the end, no matter the result.

I type it when there's a good game. If someone deserves it, they get it, regardless of my personal pointspread at the end. If someone's rude, I'm not gonna give them an insincere 'gg' - and if they're exploiting or actively toxic, I'll respond with all the politeness they deserve.
