Keys have got to go

When your opponent has a toolbox, you can counter it by keeping that person off the gens. When your opponent has a medkit, you can chase down injured survivors so they don't get a chance to heal. When your opponent has a flashlight, you can look at walls or look up to avoid being blinded and listen for sounds if you are blinded.

But against keys, the counterplay is all but nonexistent. Keeping the gens from being repaired is largely a useless endeavor against competent opponents. Even if you bring Franklin's or tunnel the key-holder to death, their teammates can always just pick it back up. Even if you find the hatch first, it doesn't matter.

It's a terrible mechanic. It makes the Killer lose through no fault of their own. Keys need to be reworked ASAP.

The thing about killing the key-holder is that it doesn't remove the key from the game. Another survivor can go back and pick it up. Which has happened to me more than once.

And I don't think dodging the lobby is a great solution, for reasons that should be obvious.

Usually, if I lose survivors to a key, it was a key found in a chest. The only thing I could do is tunnel them out, and that's only if I see they have a key.

Keys have no counterplay. There is nothing you can really do to prevent losing the match to one. Even some of the best killer mains in the world frequently lose to keys.

And why does there need to be any strings attached? It doesn't matter whether we remove other broken things like Moris at the same; the game would be better off without keys. End of story.

I want them to buff the hell out of keys' aura reading abilities, and nerf the [BAD WORD] out of the hatch opening. It should not be so easy to get large numbers of escapes part-way through a match.

I think their fine the way they are, as it stands its much harder to pull off a key escape than a Mori

  • MonlythMonlyth Member Posts: 507

Even if that were true, why does that matter? The principle is the same: there's little you can do to counter it.

Don't get downed after being hooked. Quite difficult to accomplish on a consistent basis.

Just like how "Don't let them do gens" or "Kill the key holder and don't let anyone else get near the dropped key" is not something you can feasibly do a lot of the time.

Just run Franklin's Demise if you are really afraid of key-holders, this way you'll get rid of the key (by "damaging" the item).

  • DankyDanky Member Posts: 215

using franklin's demise counters all items, EVEN keys.

  • xChrisxxChrisx Member Posts: 917

In swf Is useless, "Hey he has Franklin, ive lost my Key next to the shack" problem solved yea sure. This item need to go or be changes, same for ebony mori

  • HakuHaku Member Posts: 553

Key - hatch is the only thing that keeps these escape rates up to 30% for survivors. Any change to that and the devs may shoot themselves in the feet. I guess the killers want to see nearly 100% kill rate because close to 70% was not enough. Talk about being selfish.

And yes keys have counters as you mentioned some as any other item and they work most of the time vs solos which are the majority of players. Also the key is used after either most of the gens are done or you kill most of the players. In option one the survivors did their job/you failed and they can escape and in option two you won the game already/ 1 player escaping does not change that, 2 kills are considered a win for the killer/. With your logic of thinking no item has a counterplay because someone else can pick it and use it with the BIG difference every other item can be used at any point of the game. Your problem has nothing to do with counterplay you just want to kill everyone like every other killer here. I guess you will have to live with that same way survivors have to live for example with the fact there are maps like Wreckers' yard where the basement is in the middle of the freaking map and the killer can use it all the time easly. Oh yea and lets not forget you have to find the hatch first to use it.

I don't feel that keys are a problem. Sure it sucks to have someone leave by one when you're really doing good in a game, but guess what you did not take that person out before they had a chance to A. find hatch B. get enough gens done to spawn hatch. There are variables in this game that suck and the player can do nothing about, like being the last one alive after knocking out several gens and having the door spawn on the same wall with a highly mobile killer. You just won't 4k as a killer and you just won't exit the match as a survivor and that is okay, through no fault of your own. These are the variables we accept in this game, unfair or not, the universe does not need to align so that you can always win.

I hate keys as well but moris are a thing, personally I run Franklin's if I see a key or I just run a spare Ivory I have and do my best to make sure no one goes for the key, but at the end of the day, keys do require more work and requirements to be useful than a mori does (Coming from killer main since release)

Hey! Here’s a possibility! Maybe both Moris and Keys need a rework. Every time I see a post about keys being overpowered, here comes the “but killers have moris” comment. One mechanic being poorly designed does not validate another poorly designed mechanic.

Moris would be a lot better if they only activated if the survivors are hooked twice. This would allow killers to use them without feeling scummy and be able to enjoy the animations. Keys would be a lot better if they didn’t interact with the hatch at all or at least had an interaction time so mid chase a survivor can’t just stumble upon it and boom, they’re out.

Keys suck. There a free escape. Someone can find the hatch, hide in a locker all game and wait and not contribute to anything, and then bye bye because they brought a key. Seen it plenty.

See, the root of the problem is that survivors need the hatch and keys. Or else the survivability rate for Survivors tanks dramatically. The dev does NOT want you to 4k every game. And I totally agree. Would you play a game where your chance of surviving is less than 20%? Right now its around 30-35% according to stats i've read, in games i'm assuming DCs have been filtered out. Have you seen killer queues? They're a joke! Ive seen paint dry faster. Sure SWF with comms are a royal pain in the ass. But taking away keys would further deplete the survivor player base, which is dropping steadily. No body wants to play and get their face wrecked every game.

They’re fine. They’re keys are our moris. You can’t deny having an ebony or green mori and being able to kill a person on one hook technically isn’t op. If keys are gone then moris should be greatly reworked.

  • Yung_SlugYung_Slug Member Posts: 2,155

If the Survivor has weaved ring, which they usually do, they won't drop the key on death.

But still, Keys and Moris need to be changed.

  • ThisGuuy83ThisGuuy83 Member Posts: 1,303

I would agree, but only if the survivor had to do the equivalent of 1 gen to use the key. The killer can't just Mori you for free, they have to chase, down, wait for the un-hook, then chase and down again. Vs hiding in a locker all game, not helping your team period, and just jump out the locker and use the key freely.

  • XergeXerge Member Posts: 924

I agree, keys need to go. They are just a free escape to whoever is holding the key, even when you don't get any gens done.

You definitely sound like a rank 20. Learn the game and then come back here and try to tell a better fairy tale. This one was pretty bad. You can't find the hatch and hide all game. The hatch itself spawns at the end of the game. I bet you don't even know the real conditions for the hatch to spawn...This is the kind of killers that make threads here asking to nerf things while the problem is them being not really good at the game /trying to be nice here with my words/

  • MonlythMonlyth Member Posts: 507

You realize that even some of the best killer mains in the world often lose to keys, right? If it was just a L2P issue, such players would have no reason to complain about keys.

  • HakuHaku Member Posts: 553

Often - I doubt that. Do they even lose ? 1 or 2 players escaping is not losing. So yea I kinda don't believe you esp after all the stats and all the lies we see here from random "red" rank killers.

  • DankyDanky Member Posts: 215

but it counters keys i think ur problem is that u might wanna 4k, SwFs is a problem in of it self. SwFs needs a nerf but nothing wrong with keys.
