Why do I have to grind for other perks?

Alright so ive been playing killer a lot and I've found that most games you get gen rushed. I'm trying super hard just to level up The Hag to get ruin.

But I don't play as Hag. I just think its unfair that i have to grind to level up a character I don't want to play as just to get one perk. I would like to spend my bloodpoints on a killer I main.

You guys might not find this a problem but I just find it irritating especially when the perk never shows up in the Shrine of Secrets.

Generally speaking, if you want a character's unique perks, it's fair that you have to level that character to get them.

In the case of perks like Ruin, though, it's a bit different. I'd say the problem here is not so much how the leveling/perk acquisition system is designed, but rather the state the game is currently in such that Ruin is such an essential perk in the first place.

I agree it can be a bit frustrating at the beginning when you feel like you have mostly useless perks on the character that you want to play and to get the perks you do want, you have to level up a character that you don't actually plan on playing at all. That does make the first 50 or so hours of playing the game a bit frustrating, but once you get over that hump you may find (as many other players do) that the grind is what actually keeps you going.

At that point you'll have enough perks for at least 1 or 2 fun builds on your "main" and every few more hours of playing the game get you that much closer to the next interesting character/build that you always wanted to try! Without that the game does sometimes a bit repetitive.

My suggestion to you is to tough it out for now, as the game gets more interesting the more you play it and the grind becomes less frustrating and more enjoyable, the more content you unlock through it.

Also, you might not like the hag now, but you never know how you'll feel about her in a few months time, once you get more experienced with the game mechanics. In my first few hours of the game the only killer i could play was the Doctor, as otherwise i could just never find any survivors.. As I gained experience I actually found killers like the hag (which i never thought i could play in the beginning) quite enjoyable!

    Good luck :)

Hag is a very fun killer. Plus she can use ruin right off the bat. You can play any killer you want, though. If you have bbq on another killer for example, you might want to stick with them over hag.

It's always possible that Ruin will appear in the shrine of secrets too. I can't remember the last time it was up, but I think it was semi recent. You should always keep at least 2k shards on you every week, just in case a good perk rolls through.

Pretty sure literally all the meta perks has been on the shrine in the recent months.

One good thing is if you don't actually want to play the killer you can just pour your BP into her until you unlock ruin rather than force yourself to play her.

  • BigboifordaysBigboifordays Member Posts: 16

Its not that I don't want to play her its just I want to focus on leveling up my main killers without having to pour all me BP into her. Right now I'm level 38 with Hag and Ruin hasn't even shown up as a teachable yet. But all those BP I could of used to get my Oni to Prestige 1. Most games I've been getting gen rushed and placed with good survivors and SWF. So ive been aiming towards Ruin.

The whole game is about grinding each character.

You don't need ruin to do well in fact it can stop you from learning the maps and getting better at mindgames gaining the knowledge needed as like any perk you begin to rely on it too much and if it's destroyed quickly you will be in the same situation as before.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm 90% sure Ruin was in the shrine 2 weeks ago. You failing to keep tabs on the shrine is now costing you 1 million bp's.

Hopefully you already have BBQ, or that's gonna make this whole thing extra brutal.

I can relate tho, i took Pig to lv.40 just for make your choice (to replace bbq) but i can't replace bbq yet, because i still need more bp's!! It never ends!

I just finished leveling up all my characters and i'm very chill about BP atm. My first goal is p3 hag with all perks, let's see how that goes.

While I agree that it can be frustrating, it has in fact shown up on the shrine. Twice in the last year that I can recall.

I think Ruin was her level 40 teachable, so you're almost done :)

Also, twistedmonkey is kind of right. I barely play Ruin on any killer since most survivors recognise you've got the perk early on, spend one minute or two looking for it or simply working through the gens and then it's done and you "wasted" a perk slot (most Hexes are wasting perk slots, imo). Depending on your playtime and experience, killer will become easier while playing. Of course Ruin and other meta perks are a viable help until you've reached the point that you are good enough without them. I also understand that you feel as if you are wasting BP on her. But one day you might also enjoy playing her and be happy that you've leveled her so far already :)

They should honestly just be unlocked if you pay for the DLC, it's already hard enough having every perk unlocked trying to grind to get them all in every survivor/killer bloodweb.

  • yadielrodriguezyadielrodriguez Member Posts: 515

You understand what I'm saying that everyone now day like me know they got ruins so we just started looking for it and it is a waste slot and never use it and I get 4k still and it suck and boring.

  • yadielrodriguezyadielrodriguez Member Posts: 515

    Stop using ruins it toxic.

  • savevatznicksavevatznick Member Posts: 651

Because the bloodweb system is terrible, from the addons to the different ranks of perks to the teachables system.

  • DwightOPDwightOP Member Posts: 2,328

It's honestly a stupid design. A beginner, who already is handicapped by the lack of experience has to suffer with lack of equipment on top of that. Its an unfair design in pvp games.

  • DwightOPDwightOP Member Posts: 2,328

That's bs. It's not coincidence that ruin is the most used perk. Perks make a difference, a significant difference. Anyone who says different can't be taken serious.

  • WaffleyumboyWaffleyumboy Member Posts: 7,318

I feel you. I just didn't level up Hag and didn't even get Ruin from the shrine. I refuse to use meta perks or unfair perks or situational perks for that matter (Ruin, noed, adrenaline, DS, UB). Sure it's tough, but toughing through the bad makes the good all that much sweeter. (Who am I kidding as survivor DS or Adrenaline would've saved my hide 6/10 times but it's the thought that counts)

  • Grinding for the same perks over and over is tedious and annoying, and just not a very interesting concept.

That being said, it's how it is and I doubt it will ever be changed so just roll with it and play with what you got until you can get it, or get it from shrine.

  • I think they just need to make like, 3 dailies appear and not one each day, more reasons to play and things to do, more BP and a lil less grind to account for the increasing number of perks and such the game is getting.

  • WaffleyumboyWaffleyumboy Member Posts: 7,318

Yeah 3 slots but only one reappearing a day never made much sense to me. I guess Rift was the way they tried to make up for this although it does them little consequence to make it a little easier to get BP.

Of course they make a difference but that's not the point. It's about a need to use it.

    Take Ruin.

If you feel you need it to do well and can't without it but others players can then what does that tell you? That says its not needed by higher skilled players.

What all perks do is give someone more of a chance. They artificially increase someones skill level so they can reach a rank where it gets worse for them to play in and then they start to complain.

Without it you will just get to the rank you should be playing at.

    It's not rocket science.

Someone finally explained it in a way simple enough for the "average player" to understand! Bless you, may the spirit of Ascended Dwight watch over your travels and keep you safe.

    "other players can"

I see ruin in like 80% of the matches. Usually, killer who don't use ruin get stomped in under 5 minutes. The only time a killer can come back is with noed at the end. But here again, A PERK makes the difference. OR potatoes. A solo Q Team of potatoes can get destroyed by wraith perkless. But that doesn't say anything. A very strong group will make a complete joke out of the killer without any perks. And even with perks, you will have a stressful and hard time to keep up. If you still think otherwise I would suggest you to provide some actual evidence to support your claim.

It's funny how you try to make the point that this game is balanced enough to play perkless. This game, where an optimal team can pump all gens in 3 minutes, EVEN you find and down a survivor within the first 30 seconds.

  • WaffleyumboyWaffleyumboy Member Posts: 7,318

He meant that people consider it essential. If it actually was essential I wouldn't play killer at all even for the bp (because the bp/shards needed to get Ruin is not worth just to play a broke role).

When you have nothing there's so much to do.

When you have everything there's nothing to do.

Where did i say any of that? The simple fact remains is that many don't need to run ruin and can do extremely well.

I simply stated that using a perk won't make you a better player and it removes more learning as you become too reliant on it. If you feel you need ruin then maybe just maybe you fall into that camp.

The way some talk is that they feel they should get at least 2k every game regardless of the knowledge or skill of who they verse.

You will 4k, you will 0k winning and losing is part of any and all PvP games as sometimes your opponents are just better players. Yes SWF have an advantage which no one disputes but its evident when someone loses badly that they think do it has to be SWF but a good group of solo players can and will do better than a bad team of SWF players.

Best advice that can be given is level up David were gonna live for ever and farm some matches as survivor that's what I did when I first started made it much easier to get started with killers. If you have bubba unlocked if say get his BBQ as early ranks with clear are easier to get BP. It's the higher ranks where you can have issues getting BP consistently

It's not too bad leveling up the killers finally decided to start doing it I managed to get probably over half of them leveled up and get their perks over the course of the weekend.

It's probably about rough 800k BP to get all the teachables from a killer starting from level 1 which really isn't that bad between both offerings BBQ and WGLF it's really not that bad ofba grind. I understand the frustration though.

Even with the late stage bloodweb change from a couple of months back this game is a grind. Once the OP unlocks the Ruin he'll then need to find it in his killer main's web too.
