I've known people who have come out as bi/gay/pan in their later years. It's not impossible and I'm glad BHVR is at least trying to give some representation especially with a fan favorite character.

It may have been lazy, but some people find themselves a bit later in life, y'know? I can't get upset over that because at least they're trying. He might also be bisexual since his lore hints at him having been with a woman in his earlier years. Just a thought :)!

I think boons should have tokens or something like you can only set up a boon on one totem twice. I don't know if it would make much of a difference, but I think it could be helpful!
